How to Spoil Yourself and Not Regret It Later

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothes; you don’t have to eat a gallon of ice cream, or even a luscious frozen custard cone or banana split; you don’t have to spend a day and empty your wallet at a spa…

Do you want to give yourself a lift for one reason or another?  Age doesn’t matter.  A new tube of the perfect red lipstick is a cheap thrill that will brighten up any woman.

And it doesn’t get old.  Lipstick is the longest-lasting cosmetic that you don’t have to throw out after two or three years.  It’s a classic that goes with anything and dresses up anything and adds a pop of color to neutral outfits.

When Christian Louboutin created his first lipstick collection of 38 vibrant hues of red, he said “When a woman wears red, it’s a fierce signal saying ‘Look at me!'”

That’s not at all why I wear red, or red lipstick.  For me, it’s the artistic effect. Because when I get dressed, I consider myself a new work of art every day.  And my face is like a canvas to paint.  I’ve always concluded with satisfaction that I have something to work with.

But it’s always been first and foremost for my pleasure, for me to feel comfortable in my skin, and for me to enjoy the beauty surrounding me every day.

Red does attract attention, though.  I understand that.  I’m not afraid of that.  But that’s not ever my purpose.

I guess what Louboutin is saying is just that red makes a man look.  So if you do want men to look at you, wearing red is sexy, especially if it is lipstick that draws attention to your mouth or stilettos that draw attention to your legs.

But my husband hates when I wear red lipstick.  He feels that it’s a barrier to him getting close enough to kiss me.  It’s repelling to him because he thinks it is some kind of chemical concoction that will make a mess all over him, and it gets in the way of two sets of nude lips touching each other.

Anyway, here’s my tip:  When you want to cheer yourself up or brighten your wardrobe, the least expensive way to do it is with a new lipstick!

How Your Friends Make It Easy to be Healthy: Sleep & Fats

This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.  Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.

Chris and I agree that making these monthly goals together and posting our results here for you to see helps us to improve our health.  I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it.  Because if I said I would, I feel responsible to follow through.

Age doesn’t matter.  It’s never too late.  You can always make progress and actually reverse the signs of aging!

In June, my goal was to keep the fat count down while I was limiting calories to 1200 a day.  Chris had unsuccessfully tried to get enough sleep last month, so he decided to try getting to bed earlier at night to see if that would help. Will We Look and Feel Absolutely Amazing After 70?

Shopping at Meijer, I spotted an interesting woman, nicely-dressed with voluminous white hair.  As we passed each other, I stopped in my tracks.  I introduced myself and she told me her name was Sandy.  I asked if she would mind posing for a photo and she said, “Sure!”.  We looked around us and said in unison, “in front of…eggs?!”  We were next to the dairy case.  Baked goods looked much nicer, so we moved along to the case of special occasion cakes to take our photo.

When she told me she was 76, my jaw dropped in disbelief with the same reaction that everyone else probably has.  She said, “The number is scary, but I don’t feel old and I don’t think I look old.”  I said, “Oh my gosh, you give me hope that I won’t just shrivel up and get old when I’m in my 70’s!”  Obviously, age doesn’t matter! Would a Sexy New Athletic Top Get You to the Gym?

There’s a new kind of athletic top to flatter you at the gym and on the street, and age doesn’t matter.  It actually looks good on anyone because it slims you, tones your arms, keeps you cool while keeping you covered, and looks sexy to boot!

I’m talking about a new concept in athletic wear created by Jacqui Hook of Tenaz Athletics, her women’s athletic wear company based in sunny San Diego, California. Tenaz is the Spanish word for tenacious. The mission of Tenáz Athletics is to inspire in women a tenacity for staying fit and healthy regardless of age, fitness level, body type, or other perceived obstacles.

I tried one of the athletic tops from the company’s introductory Breathe line.  When it was delivered and I opened the package, I was wowed!  I got the scoop-neck top with turquoise accent stitching.  (Of course!  Turquoise is my favorite color.)

It’s beautiful!  And I love how long it is and how it skims over the body, not tight like most other athletic wear.  The length and the color black are slimming, as well as the colored accent lines which run vertically.

And best of all is Jacqui’s concept of the mesh sleeves that breathe.  They cover and tone your arms, yet the top is as cool as a tank.  The sheer black mesh along the arms and shoulders makes it sexy and dresses it up for wearing morning, noon and night.  The mesh seems strong and doesn’t seem to be prone to snagging or running, although I will be careful with it. How Your True Self Will Make You Free and Beautiful

This is all about why I chose the name “Your True Self” for my blog.  And why age doesn’t matter to your true self within.

I am captivated when I see bohemian styles in fashion, decor, parts of the world, and in ourselves.  By that, I mean our inner selves.

One day, I was reading an introduction to boho fashion.  It explained that the bohemian personality not only dressed in a freely creative way, but also was connected to nature and was a free spirit who expressed her true self in words, deeds and surroundings.  Not all bohemians are alike.  They each express their unique personality, tastes and opinions. How to Wear a Sleeveless Blazer in Classic and Unusual Ways

sleeveless black blazerA sleeveless blazer will help you keep your cool during spring and summer business events.  But it can also be layered during cold weather, and it doesn’t have to be restricted to business.  It is really quite versatile.  There are so many ways to wear it that age doesn’t matter.

The following outfit combinations are based on a black sleeveless blazer.  As much as possible, I will refrain from calling it black so that it can be a formula you can easily translate.  But if yours is not black, simply substitute the colors of your outfit to parallel the following combos. 13 Ways to Stop Computers from Aging You

Is your computer aging you?  Age doesn’t matter, because cosmetic surgeons claim that they are seeing more and more younger patients showing signs of aging.  These include accelerated fine lines, wrinkles, frown lines, turkey neck, deep wrinkles, and jowls.  In September 2010, the Daily Mail published an interesting report. According to a leading cosmetic surgeon, professionals who sit for hours in front of the computer—and who tend to squint, frown, or remain in one position for a long period of time—are at a greater risk for the appearance of premature aging.  But there are many things you can do to prevent this from happening.
