In an effort to encourage you to make the best of what you have (age doesn’t matter), I am sharing a short series of articles that are inspiring. 🙂
The November issue of InStyle magazine contains an interview with Drew Barrymore, “The 5 Beauty Products Drew Barrymore Swears By.” But what’s really important about that interview, and what drew me to read it, is the highlighted quote where she said:
“Instead of beating yourself up about what you don’t have, figure out what you do have and make it work.”
I have a simple little thing to tell you today: Make the best of what you have. Age doesn’t matter. No matter what age, size or body type you are, you can always appreciate your good points and take care of them and play them up.
A long time ago, when my children were small, I had a woman come in to clean my house to help me catch up on things. I was apologizing for some old parts of the house that I wasn’t able to replace because of the cost. She reassured me, “Just make the best of what you have.” Then she polished it up and when she was done, the whole place felt so sparkling and new. I felt so much better; she made me happier about my house!
Your body can be like that, too, and your wardrobe. Continue Reading
I’m so happy to be a member of the Forever Fierce Revolution Facebook group. They are so supportive, and there are so many members…not just bloggers but also midlife women who want to connect with each other. Members have blogs that cover so many ages and so many different styles and topics.
The group started as the Fierce50, but then women in their 40’s, 60’s and 70’s joined as well. Now the group is broadening yet again with a campaign Bridging the Gap (BtG) between women young and old. (I might start a group called Sensational60… Lol!) Forever Fierce is expanding so much that stylistas in their 20’s through 70’s were at the meetup. So, Age doesn’t matter anymore!
I love the flowing, eclectic, colorful and embellished outfits put together in the gypsy style. It’s free-spirited! You can dress for your true self, and age doesn’t matter. I often see artistic women of a certain age in multi-color, sweeping skirts with loads of jewelry.
Today’s gypsy style is likened to a global, bohemian style; thus, the offshoot of Gypset — a style adopted by jet-setters who travel the globe. The modern gypsy style is an exotic combination of tribal, art deco, hippie, ethnic, gothic, and of course vintage.
For the last 40 years, my husband Russ and I have lived in Detroit. At first, we lived in the Cass Corridor. Then we bought my Aunt Anne’s house on the northeast side. We have lived been here for 31 years because Russ didn’t want to leave Detroit.
The Cass Corridor had a bad reputation back when we lived there. My own family stopped coming to visit us because they thought our home in northeast Detroit was in a dangerous area. My sisters were amazed that I would continue to live here because of my husband’s wishes. I don’t usually invite people over to our house anymore, since the foreclosures took over the area in recent years and the Emergency Manager took away some of our public services.
So why are we here, and what’s good about Detroit? There are lots of reasons, from the personal to the ideal.
