101 Ideas for How to Use Scarves in Your Outfits

Outfit idea from Badass Baby Boomer

My signature piece is the scarf.  I love to add a scarf to what I am wearing because it is the simplest layering piece and an accessory to add color and tie an outfit together (pun not intended :D).  Age doesn’t matter.  Scarves are a basic accessory that anyone can use any way you choose!

I usually just let the ends hang free in front, which adds a vertical line and a little coverage.  Then, I wrap it around my throat if I get chilled.  Or throw it over one shoulder if I get too warm.  Pashminas and shawls are even better because then I can open them up and wrap them around me for warmth when needed.  They can also be worn unfolded and draped around the shoulders like a poncho, which fits in with the trend.  You can throw one side over your shoulder like a cape and pin it; or belt it poncho-style; or belt it over the free-hanging ends in front, under or over your coat.  There are infinite possibilities! What’s Special About You? Make the Best of What You Have!

I have a simple little thing to tell you today:  Make the best of what you have.  Age doesn’t matter.  No matter what age, size or body type you are, you can always appreciate your good points and take care of them and play them up.

A long time ago, when my children were small, I had a woman come in to clean my house to help me catch up on things.  I was apologizing for some old parts of the house that I wasn’t able to replace because of the cost.  She reassured me, “Just make the best of what you have.”  Then she polished it up and when she was done, the whole place felt so sparkling and new.  I felt so much better; she made me happier about my house!

Your body can be like that, too, and your wardrobe. Continue reading “What’s Special About You? Make the Best of What You Have!”

How to Wear Belts in Interesting New Ways This Fall

Wide gold belt from Keep.com

Belts are trending this Fall, especially wide belts, but thin ones too.  The point is to emphasize the hourglass shape of the womanly body.  Belts add interest to a plain outfit and define your waist, giving you shape even when your clothes are shapeless.  I’ll give you some ideas for substituting other things for a belt, such as a necklace, or using two different color belts that are the same size and style.  And, of course, as usual I will give you outfit ideas using belts.  Age doesn’t matter because you can belt anything, and I encourage you to be creative about how!   Continue reading “How to Wear Belts in Interesting New Ways This Fall”

Would You Want to Be a Member of the Forever Fierce? I Love It!

I’m so happy to be a member of Forever Fierce:  The Midlife Revolution Facebook group.  They are so supportive, and there are so many members…not just bloggers but also midlife women who want to connect with each other.  Members have blogs that cover so many ages and so many different styles and topics.

The group started as the Fierce50, but then women in their 40’s, 60’s and 70’s joined as well.  Now the group is broadening yet again with a campaign Bridging the Gap (BtG) between women young and old.  (I might start a group called Sensational60…  Lol!)  Forever Fierce is expanding so much that stylistas in their 20’s through 70’s were at the meetup.  So, Age doesn’t matter anymore!

How to Get that Free-Spirited Gypsy Style

I love the flowing, eclectic, colorful and embellished outfits put together in the gypsy style.  It’s free-spirited!  You can dress for your true self, and age doesn’t matter.  I often see artistic women of a certain age in multi-color, sweeping skirts with loads of jewelry.

Today’s Gypsy style is like to a global, bohemian style; thus, the offshoot of Gypset — a style adopted by jet-setters who travel the globe.  The modern Gypsy style is an exotic combination of tribal, art deco, hippie, ethnic, gothic,  and of course vintage.

True Confessions: Why Have I Lived in Detroit All This Time?

For the last 40 years, my husband Russ and I have lived in Detroit.  At first, we lived in the Cass Corridor.  Then we bought my Aunt Anne’s house on the northeast side.  We have lived been here for 31 years because Russ didn’t want to leave Detroit.

The Cass Corridor had a bad reputation back when we lived there.  My own family stopped coming to visit us because they thought our home in northeast Detroit was in a dangerous area.  My sisters were amazed that I would continue to live here because of my husband’s wishes.  I don’t usually invite people over to our house anymore, since the foreclosures took over the area in recent years and the Emergency Manager took away some of our public services.

So why are we here, and what’s good about Detroit?  There are lots of reasons, from the personal to the ideal.

How to Be Bold and Creative with Print Mixing

Let’s have some fun!  Age doesn’t matter.  The new world of mixing prints with abandon is colorful and artistic.  Artist and painter Pattie Gerrie is an example of someone who shows her true self with joy.

I’m starting out bold and creative here, then I will give you some really good guidelines to follow, and then I will finish up with outfit combinations to inspire you.  I haven’t tried this much myself, but I’m excited to do more of it.  So let’s start experimenting!

How to Make Natural Jewelry Cleaner Quickly and Easily

I found this easy, natural way to clean jewelry by FP Brigette and would like to share it with you because it works so well.  My husband even filled a tray with crusty old coins and they got clean in ten minutes this way!  This solution just bubbles away all tinges of tarnish, etc.  (Just like Scrubbing Bubbles cleans the bathroom.  Lol!)  Whatever methods you’ve used in the past, age doesn’t matter.  This is a great new way to make a seemingly impossible job so quick and easy.

You can make a paste of baking soda and water and just buff your jewelry with it in a pinch.  But the following method does a better job with less elbow grease, on intricate jewelry, and you can throw multiple pieces into the pan at once!

New York City Packing List:  What to Pack for the Weekend

I’m going to New York City for a long weekend trip soon.  So I want to learn how to pack everything I need in a carry-on bag and not over-pack like I always tend to end up doing!  I have the “just in case” syndrome.  I think I got it from being a mom, when I had to make sure we had everything for the entire family.  But age doesn’t matter (LOL).  Lots of people end up doing the same thing.  So, after doing the research, this is how I think I can pack everything into that one little carry-on bag!
