Belts are trending this Fall, especially wide belts, but thin ones too. The point is to emphasize the hourglass shape of the womanly body. Belts add interest to a plain outfit and define your waist, giving you shape even when your clothes are shapeless. I’ll give you some ideas for substituting other things for a belt, such as a necklace, or using two different color belts that are the same size and style. And, of course, as usual I will give you outfit ideas using belts. Age doesn’t matter because you can belt anything, and I encourage you to be creative about how! Let’s have some fun! Age doesn’t matter. The new world of mixing prints with abandon is colorful and artistic. Artist and painter Pattie Gerrie is an example of someone who shows her true self with joy.
I’m starting out bold and creative here, then I will give you some really good guidelines to follow, and then I will finish up with outfit combinations to inspire you. I haven’t tried this much myself, but I’m excited to do more of it. So let’s start experimenting!
Fall is here! Early Fall is still tinged with Summer, so let’s enjoy the beginning of the beautiful Autumn season. While we’re in between hot and cold, we want to stay comfortable. And that means finding ways to wear clothes that look like Fall but feel like Summer, or to wear Summer clothes that feel warmer. Following are some ways we can all dress between the seasons and look good doing it. Age doesn’t matter!
A kimono makes a simple dress or jeans and a tee into something special, just like a blazer or jacket. You can cover a body-conscious dress with a flowing kimono. On the other hand, a black lacy tank or any sexy camisole makes a kimono date night ready. Throw a kimono over a hoodie and jeans outfit. Use a kimono as a robe around the house. Or try a kimono as a bathing suit cover-up! There are so many ways to wear a kimono…age doesn’t matter. Take this list, look in your closet, and create some new outfits for yourself!
There are nine classic accessories that every woman should have. Age doesn’t matter. The following list tells you how to wear each one to best advantage.
But I say: if you want to experiment, go for it! One evening at an Artist’s Way study group, a friend wore her sparkling chandelier earrings with her casual outfit and it looked absolutely gorgeous. 😉
The minimal all-black or all-white outfit is simple and always stylish. Age doesn’t matter. Look at Colleen Heidemann, for example:
I love layering: layering clothes, necklaces, bracelets, rings, anything! But that doesn’t mean I do it very often or that I’m good at it. It takes some playing around. I need tutoring and inspiration. Perhaps you do, too! Age doesn’t matter. So here goes an exploration into how we can layer bracelets… Continue reading “How to Get Good at Layering Bracelets”
During the summer, there are so many fun things to do that you’ll probably have to go directly from your daytime activities to an evening out. Or maybe you make a pit stop at home and need a quick presto change-o! I’ve got plenty of outfit ideas to make that easier for you. Age doesn’t matter. These tips work for everyone! A sleeveless blazer will help you keep your cool during spring and summer business events. But it can also be layered during cold weather, and it doesn’t have to be restricted to business. It is really quite versatile. There are so many ways to wear it that age doesn’t matter.
The following outfit combinations are based on a black sleeveless blazer. As much as possible, I will refrain from calling it black so that it can be a formula you can easily translate. But if yours is not black, simply substitute the colors of your outfit to parallel the following combos. Continue reading “How to Wear a Sleeveless Blazer in Classic and Unusual Ways”
Today, I’m doing something I never do: showing “What I Wore.” It was a very hot day, and I felt totally cool and comfortable all day in this. In fact, I was getting cold in our air-conditioned house and started looking for a jacket or warm shawl or afghan!
I just bought this silky charcoal tunic from Zara. I saw it on another blogger who tucked it loosely into her jeans. I can’t remember who it was, but she looked great!
When I received this in the mail, I was surprised that it was so long. I can’t imagine tucking it into pants, but I can imagine tucking it into a skirt.
I know it would look great over a dress extender. If you would like to find out more about dress extenders, see my article “What in the World is a Skirt Extender?”
This tunic would also look good over a short-sleeve or long-sleeve t-shirt. Since it’s a tunic, leggings or skinny jeans or jeggings would be necessary objects as well.
When the cold weather returns, the tunic could be layered under a sweater or cardigan or jacket with tights or fleece leggings and boots. Then you could also add a warm scarf or shawl.
How would you wear a tunic like this? Let us know in the comments below. Also, sign up for emails below to get future blog posts as they come out every Thursday and Saturday. You can follow YourTrueSelfBlog on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
