How Your Friends Make It Easy to Be Healthy

This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.

Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.

Chris and I agree that making these monthly goals together and posting our results here for you to see helps us to improve our health.  I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it.  Because if I said I would, I feel responsible to follow through.

Age doesn’t matter.  It’s never too late.  You can always make progress and actually reverse the signs of aging!

In May, my goal was to count calories (for the first time ever!) and keep them down to 1200 a day.  Chris was so exhausted from insomnia and hard work that he decided to try to get enough sleep each night. Continue Reading

This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.

September was a whirlwind of activity, as we prepared for the premiere of Loserville the Film.  Chris was involved in promotion of the movie that he starred in, and we booked our trips and packed for Hollywood to attend the premiere on September 29th.  Also, at the beginning of the Month, my husband and I traveled to his niece’s wedding.   Chris and I kept to our previous goals, but did not make new goals until October.

In October, my new goal was to eat five fruits and vegetables a day.  Chris’ goal was to reinforce all of his previous goals because he was slipping back on various things, such as drinking pop and eating burgers and greasy foods.  So he added the goal of drinking water instead of pop. This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.

In August, Chris’ goal was to go to the gym five days a week and to run every other day, whether at the gym or not.  My goal was to get a half-hour of aerobic exercise five days a week, with stretching and weights on the other two days.  We had worked on similar goals in July, but wanted to do better.  We felt that some days get too busy and interfere with exercise, so we wanted to find a way to make it work every day.

This journal entry has two parts:  our August exercise results, and a report on the progress we’ve made since we started making goals in March.  Continue Reading

June:  Creating an Exercise Program

This is my health diary.  It began in March, when my son, Chris, and I shared with each other what we would give up for Lent.  We missed the beginning, since Easter was earlier this year, so we only had the month of March left.  I gave up drinking wine every day and Chris cut down on eating pizza.  We were happy that we improved our diets by doing this, so in April  I cut down on sweets and Chris stopped drinking soda pop.  In May, Chris cut down on chips and I added a fruit or vegetable to each meal.  This month, we began to make exercise goals.
