How to Look Cute When You’re Just Lounging Around

Whether you’re working at home or relaxing on weekends, you can still look good — even when no one’s looking.  Just for you…your true self…body, mind and soul…to be comfortable and beautiful, no matter what your age.

Since I just retired and I’m working at home writing a fashion blog, I don’t need to get dressed for work anymore.  I’m around the house a lot.  And, of course, I just want to be comfortable.  It’s time to dress down.

Yet I still like to play with colors, scarves are my signature piece, and I like to add a cool piece of jewelry or more.  As always, I don’t like to wear the same thing twice; I like to create endless combinations of what I have.  Yet I have some favorite combos, such as a tunic with skinnies or a maxi with a t-shirt.  And the good thing is:  I love my jeans.

What do you wear when you’re just hanging around the house?  Do you wear sweats or jeans and a tee?  Are you tired of the same old thing and feel like you’re ready for some new inspiration?  Do you want to look great while you lounge in comfort? The Freedom of Expressing Your True Self

“It’s this freedom that’s the key to becoming visible again. Not caring what others think is freeing. Expressing yourself any way you want is freeing. Having opinions, emotional wisdom, spiritual understanding…these things free you. And in freedom, we find power.” — quote by Jane Tara from her book The Happy Endings Book Club Continue reading “Link Love: The Secrets of How to Age Gracefully”

Rag and Bone

Following up on my recent post about skirt extenders, I am exploring the myriad ways to wear a slip dress.  A skirt extender is just like a slip dress.  If you don’t want to wear the slip dress solo, here’s what you can layer under a slip dress and what you can layer over a slip dress.  You can layer under and over, and you can go on to add as many layers as you want. Seeing Your True Self

I was struck by the fact that a couple of articles in the March issue of “InStyle” magazine were about being true to yourself.  That issue is central, of course, to my philosophy presented in Your True Self blog.  So, naturally, I would like to discuss those articles and give you the links:

What in the World is a Skirt Extender?

Dress extender hem 2I I love bohemian style and fell in love with Free People when they sent a catalog of their unique styles.  I started looking at their blog and really loved the way they wore slips as dresses and as layers, but just couldn’t figure out how to work it into my outfits.  Their outfits were too college-age for me.  For instance, I wasn’t going to wear mini-skirts with over-the-knee socks and sneakers.

Then I started to follow the blog Fashion Fairy Dust. Continue reading “What in the World is a Skirt Extender?”

How Your Friends Make It Easy to Be Healthy: Share & Tell

A Targeted Exercise Program and Lean Protein

This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.

Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.

Chris and I agree that making these monthly goals together and posting our results here for you to see helps us to improve our health.  I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it.  Because if I said I would, I feel responsible to follow through.

In January, my goal was to meet with a personal trainer to create a targeted exercise program.  Chris’ goal was to add more lean protein to his diet. Continue reading “How Your Friends Make It Easy to Be Healthy: Share & Tell”
