This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month. Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.
Chris and I agree that making these monthly goals together and posting our results here for you to see helps us to improve our health. I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it. Because if I said I would, I feel responsible to follow through.
Age doesn’t matter. It’s never too late. You can always make progress and actually reverse the signs of aging!
Shopping at Meijer, I spotted an interesting woman, nicely-dressed with voluminous white hair. As we passed each other, I stopped in my tracks. I introduced myself and she told me her name was Sandy. I asked if she would mind posing for a photo and she said, “Sure!”. We looked around us and said in unison, “in front of…eggs?!” We were next to the dairy case. Baked goods looked much nicer, so we moved along to the case of special occasion cakes to take our photo.
When she told me she was 76, my jaw dropped in disbelief with the same reaction that everyone else probably has. She said, “The number is scary, but I don’t feel old and I don’t think I look old.” I said, “Oh my gosh, you give me hope that I won’t just shrivel up and get old when I’m in my 70’s!” Obviously, age doesn’t matter! There’s a new kind of athletic top to flatter you at the gym and on the street, and age doesn’t matter. It actually looks good on anyone because it slims you, tones your arms, keeps you cool while keeping you covered, and looks sexy to boot!
I’m talking about a new concept in athletic wear created by Jacqui Hook of Tenaz Athletics, her women’s athletic wear company based in sunny San Diego, California. Tenaz is the Spanish word for tenacious. The mission of Tenáz Athletics is to inspire in women a tenacity for staying fit and healthy regardless of age, fitness level, body type, or other perceived obstacles.
I tried one of the athletic tops from the company’s introductory Breathe line. When it was delivered and I opened the package, I was wowed! I got the scoop-neck top with turquoise accent stitching. (Of course! Turquoise is my favorite color.)
It’s easy to be sexy when the weather is hot. Less is more and it’s time to bare your most attractive assets. Age doesn’t matter. Reach for the cool sexiness of sheer, flowing clothes like a chiffon blouse, silk or gauze pants, a maxi skirt or a maxi dress. Continue reading “How to Be Sexy When the Weather is Hot”→
Summer is the time of year to relax and take life slow. When enjoying fresh summer breezes, sunshine, the peaceful sounds of nature when the birds chirp and the wind whispers through the trees…age doesn’t matter. We all get the urge to partake in the events of the season: picnics, barbecues, outdoor concerts whether rock, techno, jazz, classical or Big Band.
Paste this handy list on your closet door and when getting ready to go out this summer, look it over for inspiration on what to wear. Enjoy!
This is all about why I chose the name “Your True Self” for my blog. And why age doesn’t matter to your true self within.
I am captivated when I see bohemian styles in fashion, decor, parts of the world, and in ourselves. By that, I mean our inner selves.
One day, I was reading an introduction to boho fashion. It explained that the bohemian personality not only dressed in a freely creative way, but also was connected to nature and was a free spirit who expressed her true self in words, deeds and surroundings. Not all bohemians are alike. They each express their unique personality, tastes and opinions. Continue reading “How Your True Self Will Make You Free and Beautiful”→
A sleeveless blazer will help you keep your cool during spring and summer business events. But it can also be layered during cold weather, and it doesn’t have to be restricted to business. It is really quite versatile. There are so many ways to wear it that age doesn’t matter.
Is your computer aging you? Age doesn’t matter, because cosmetic surgeons claim that they are seeing more and more younger patients showing signs of aging. These include accelerated fine lines, wrinkles, frown lines, turkey neck, deep wrinkles, and jowls. In September 2010, the Daily Mail published an interesting report. According to a leading cosmetic surgeon, professionals who sit for hours in front of the computer—and who tend to squint, frown, or remain in one position for a long period of time—are at a greater risk for the appearance of premature aging. But there are many things you can do to prevent this from happening. Continue reading “13 Ways to Stop Computers from Aging You”→
Today, I’m doing something I never do: showing “What I Wore.” It was a very hot day, and I felt totally cool and comfortable all day in this. In fact, I was getting cold in our air-conditioned house and started looking for a jacket or warm shawl or afghan!
I just bought this silky charcoal tunic from Zara. I saw it on another blogger who tucked it loosely into her jeans. I can’t remember who it was, but she looked great!
When I received this in the mail, I was surprised that it was so long. I can’t imagine tucking it into pants, but I can imagine tucking it into a skirt.
This tunic would also look good over a short-sleeve or long-sleeve t-shirt. Since it’s a tunic, leggings or skinny jeans or jeggings would be necessary objects as well.
When the cold weather returns, the tunic could be layered under a sweater or cardigan or jacket with tights or fleece leggings and boots. Then you could also add a warm scarf or shawl.
How would you wear a tunic like this? Let us know in the comments below. Also, sign up for emails below to get future blog posts as they come out every Thursday and Saturday. You can follow YourTrueSelfBlog on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
Have you heard that sitting is the new smoking? Actually, it’s worse.
Age doesn’t matter. From early childhood to old age, the amount of sitting has increased as we have become a sedentary society. Not only do we sit at work all day, but we also sit in our cars as we travel from place to place, sit down for meals, and then sit down on our couch to watch television in the evenings and on weekends.
A blog article by Anytime Fitness called “Scared Sit-less“ reported that “a 2008 Vanderbilt University Study of 6,300 people published in the American Journal of Epidemiology estimated that an average American spends 58% of waking time (7.7 hours a day) in sedentary behaviors such as sitting. Dr. James Levine, director of the Mayo Clinic-Arizona State University Obesity Solutions Initiative and inventor of the treadmill desk, has found that ‘Sitting is more dangerous than smoking, kills more people than HIV, and is more treacherous than parachuting. We are sitting ourselves to death.'” Continue reading “Did You Know Sitting is the New Smoking?”→
