How to Be Absolutely Radiant as You Get Older

Radiant Book
Naturally effective prescriptions for rejuvenation

“What prize is earned from having youthful, balanced hormones, a clean-machine body, expanded emotions and a conscious connection to one’s “true self”?  It is having a special form of radiance permeate and expand you.  This radiance exudes an energy that is magnetic.  You shine, sizzle, entice and seduce.  Regardless of your weight, body type, profession or marital status, people will be drawn to you, court you and vie for your attention.  I call this integrated state ‘Feminine Radiance.'” – Dr. Prudence Hall

As a member of the Facebook group, Forever Fierce: The Midlife Revolution, I recently traveled to New York City to meet fellow bloggers at a style event hosted by Chico’s.  Each of us received a goody bag from our host, containing the following products:  a Luna Stretch Reversible Bracelet from Chico’s, a charcoal masque by Montagne Jeunesse 7th Heaven, day and night cream by Simply Venom, and the book Radiant Again & Forever by Prudence Hall, M.D.

I have just finished the book, and feel that it is important to let you know about the holistic ways that Dr. Hall has found to reverse the aging process at a cellular level.  She treats the whole person — body, mind and spirit.  Once you achieve that, age doesn’t matter; it’s just a number.  Life only gets better.

How to Look Classy When You Go Out for the Evening This Fall

This list of outfit ideas took me longer than usual to compile for you.  I worked all day and evening for days.  These ideas are the result of many years of coming home after work and sitting down with the news on TV, a drink, a candle and the cats to just relax.  My favorite way of relaxing was to come up with ideas on how to combine the clothes I had.  I finally realized there are infinite combinations, and decided to share them with you!

When the weather gets cold, there are certain items that come in handy for numerous evening looks.  Age doesn’t matter.  Just choose the pieces that work best for you!

Fall begins with casual evenings, and then holiday parties of all sorts start rolling in.  Here are the evening pieces I find that I use over and over, along with my ideas for how to wear them.  When the holidays are here, take a look at my holiday posts:  Over 100 Evening Looks for Holiday Events and A New Perspective on Holiday Outfit Colors.

These lists are handy for when you want to decide what to buy for your evening wardrobe, or to inspire you when you don’t know what to wear.  You don’t need all of these items, especially if you like a minimal wardrobe…just pick and choose from what you like best.  These are just ideas I’m sharing with you.  I like to check off of the list what I wore, and just keep the outfits on the list (maybe with a star) that looked best.

You might like to print these lists out and keep the printout as a pamphlet handy in your closet.  To make it easier for you to do that, I am limiting the amount of photos so they don’t get in the way so much when you print.  If you prefer more photos, let me know in the comments section.

How to Be Ageless in Body, Mind and Spirit

Yesterday, I was wishing my cousin a happy birthday despite the fact that her mother had just died.  She replied, “I’m glad we’re still having them.”  We want to still have them for a long time to come, and we want them to be healthy and happy too.

In a “Natural Awakenings” magazine article entitled Ageless Being:  Staying Vibrant in Mind, Body and Spirit by Kathleen Barnes, the author begins with quotes by Christiane Northrup, M.D.   She is a leading authority in the field of women’s health and wellness, which includes the unity of mind, body, emotions and spirit.  Dr. Northrup often says, “Don’t tell anyone how old you are. Another birthday means nothing.”  As I always say, age doesn’t matter!  So I’d like to explore here what we can do to live a long, fulfilling life.

How to Transform a Sexy Slip for Every Day

Anthropology Satin Jacquard Slip Dress with Birkenstocks and Chambray shirt as jacket, as seen on Polyvore

A slip dress is not only a sexy little slip of a thing.  It can be worn solo in the summer, of course, or when you’re feeling sexy….  But you can do so many other things with it:  layer under and/or over during the fall and winter, adding as many layers as you want.  It makes the slip dress wearable for all.  Age doesn’t matter.

There are dress extenders or skirt extenders that look just like slip dresses and can be used the same way.  See my article on skirt extenders here.

And then there are slip dresses that are like two-fers:  a t-shirt and slip dress all in one piece.  That makes it easier to wear and easier to add more layers!

The easiest thing to do is slip a white tee, short-sleeve or long-sleeve under a slip dress and add casual shoes.  But you can use any color t-shirt, or even a graphic or striped tee.

Here’s a list of different pieces to add under and/or over your slip dress.  And then, below this list, you will find over 50 ideas for how to put them together.

How to Make the Best of What You Have

In an effort to encourage you to make the best of what you have (age doesn’t matter), I am sharing a short series of articles that are inspiring.  🙂

The November issue of InStyle magazine contains an interview with Drew Barrymore, “The 5 Beauty Products Drew Barrymore Swears By.”  But what’s really important about that interview, and what drew me to read it, is the highlighted quote where she said:

“Instead of beating yourself up about what you don’t have, figure out what you do have and make it work.”

101 Ideas for How to Use Scarves in Your Outfits

Outfit idea from Badass Baby Boomer

My signature piece is the scarf.  I love to add a scarf to what I am wearing because it is the simplest layering piece and an accessory to add color and tie an outfit together (pun not intended :D).  Age doesn’t matter.  Scarves are a basic accessory that anyone can use any way you choose!

I usually just let the ends hang free in front, which adds a vertical line and a little coverage.  Then, I wrap it around my throat if I get chilled.  Or throw it over one shoulder if I get too warm.  Pashminas and shawls are even better because then I can open them up and wrap them around me for warmth when needed.  They can also be worn unfolded and draped around the shoulders like a poncho, which fits in with the trend.  You can throw one side over your shoulder like a cape and pin it; or belt it poncho-style; or belt it over the free-hanging ends in front, under or over your coat.  There are infinite possibilities! What’s Special About You? Make the Best of What You Have!

I have a simple little thing to tell you today:  Make the best of what you have.  Age doesn’t matter.  No matter what age, size or body type you are, you can always appreciate your good points and take care of them and play them up.

A long time ago, when my children were small, I had a woman come in to clean my house to help me catch up on things.  I was apologizing for some old parts of the house that I wasn’t able to replace because of the cost.  She reassured me, “Just make the best of what you have.”  Then she polished it up and when she was done, the whole place felt so sparkling and new.  I felt so much better; she made me happier about my house!

Your body can be like that, too, and your wardrobe. Continue reading “What’s Special About You? Make the Best of What You Have!”

How to Wear Belts in Interesting New Ways This Fall

Wide gold belt from

Belts are trending this Fall, especially wide belts, but thin ones too.  The point is to emphasize the hourglass shape of the womanly body.  Belts add interest to a plain outfit and define your waist, giving you shape even when your clothes are shapeless.  I’ll give you some ideas for substituting other things for a belt, such as a necklace, or using two different color belts that are the same size and style.  And, of course, as usual I will give you outfit ideas using belts.  Age doesn’t matter because you can belt anything, and I encourage you to be creative about how!   Continue reading “How to Wear Belts in Interesting New Ways This Fall”

Would You Want to Be a Member of the Forever Fierce? I Love It!

I’m so happy to be a member of Forever Fierce:  The Midlife Revolution Facebook group.  They are so supportive, and there are so many members…not just bloggers but also midlife women who want to connect with each other.  Members have blogs that cover so many ages and so many different styles and topics.

The group started as the Fierce50, but then women in their 40’s, 60’s and 70’s joined as well.  Now the group is broadening yet again with a campaign Bridging the Gap (BtG) between women young and old.  (I might start a group called Sensational60…  Lol!)  Forever Fierce is expanding so much that stylistas in their 20’s through 70’s were at the meetup.  So, Age doesn’t matter anymore!

How to Get that Free-Spirited Gypsy Style

I love the flowing, eclectic, colorful and embellished outfits put together in the gypsy style.  It’s free-spirited!  You can dress for your true self, and age doesn’t matter.  I often see artistic women of a certain age in multi-color, sweeping skirts with loads of jewelry.

Today’s Gypsy style is like to a global, bohemian style; thus, the offshoot of Gypset — a style adopted by jet-setters who travel the globe.  The modern Gypsy style is an exotic combination of tribal, art deco, hippie, ethnic, gothic,  and of course vintage.
