A Vintage Boutique that has Frocks, Follies & Photography?!
My friend, rocker Sinderella, took me to see a favorite place where she scores vintage finds to wear, accessorize and embellish as wearable art. In fact, she embellishes her house with them, too!
The boutique is called Muse Atelier, meaning an art or design studio to inspire creativity. Age doesn’t matter when you are inspired by styles through the ages and want to spice up your life.
And inspire it does! The customers have fun making themselves into fantasy persons of the past.
Muse is so beautifully decorated that the place is often used for photo and video shoots.
There are sets for boudoir photography. Just the week before I was there, an 85-year-old woman dressed up in clothes that her husband chose and was photographed in sexy shots in the vintage bedroom made for just that.
Muse is a fantasy land full of vintage clothing, jewelry, lingerie, art and furniture.
The loft studio is available for portrait, boudoir or pin-up photography.
There are also regular creative classes and events, such as Sin Sunday when the manager teaches burlesque or “dirty dancing” when people ‘should’ be at church!
Antique gowns
As many vintage shops, Muse buys vintage clothing, jewelry and little whimsical things.
Previously located in Ypsilanti, Muse Atelier is now located at 336 S. Ashley St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Their phone number is (734) 972-6682. Their website is www.museatelier.com. Their hours are Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. Private consultations and studio hours are by appointment only.
