Age doesn't matter.

All About How to Love Your True Self

Graduation from Blogcademy
Shauna, Kat, me and Gala at culmination of Blogcademy classes

Today, I’d like to introduce you to an enthusiastic young blogger who was one of my headmistresses when I first attended the Blogcademy to learn how to blog.  Her name is Gala Darling, and I have a few examples from her blog that I’d like to share with you because they are all about being your true self.  Age doesn’t matter.  Her articles are full of fun!

The other two headmistresses of the Blogcademy are Shauna Darling of nubbytwiglet.com:  “Design, Marketing & Style Magnified,” and Kat Williams of rocknrollbride.com:  “The Ultimate Guide for Alternative Brides.”  I attended their weekend intensive blogging workshop in New York, but I believe it is available exclusively online now.

Here is my favorite passage from one of Gala’s blog posts, “A Punk Rock Approach to Living the Life of Your Dreams“:

 EMBRACE YOUR WEIRDNESS

“Being weird is awesome, and let’s be real:  the only other option is to repress your true self into oblivion.  Think how sad your 5 year old self would be to see you pretending to be someone you’re not.  Don’t be embarrassed about what you believe, what you love, who you love, your dreams and desires.  Being your authentic self is the sexiest thing in the entire world.”

In this next post, I will list the five things she is talking about, but please do feel free to read her full advice for each one:

TOP 5 WAYS TO DEFINE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE

  1. …Start making a lookbook for yourself.
  2. Start borrowing clothes and accessories from your friends…
  3. Start taking daily outfit photos…
  4. Write yourself a rough style concept.
  5. Be prepared to spend some time thinking about your look.

And I like this last one because it is a motivational speech urging you to be yourself.  Age doesn’t matter, of course.  We all need a pep talk now and then.  In short, here are the main points she makes (you can read the entire article here.)

HOW TO BE CONFIDENT

  • Realize how amazing you are.
  • Learn to love & accept yourself.
  • Learn how to avoid creeps.
  • Accept compliments with grace.
  • Choose a role model & think, “What would __________ do?”
  • Stick up for yourself.
  • Rehearse in your head.
  • Think about your body language, posture, etc.
  • Remember that other people’s opinions of you are NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

Now, for a little more visual interest, here is a casual discussion between Gala and Halcyon on “Beauty & Gratitude” and being yourself:

I hope you enjoy meeting Gala.  Let us know if you go to her site to read more.  Food for thought?  Leave your comments for us below!
