Style Tip: How to Get the Greatest Variety of Outfits From a Tiered Skirt

Today’s style tip will help you get the greatest variety of outfits from a tiered skirt. This piece is a recurring trend for many reasons:

  • It’s not just for summer; it can be made wearable year round.
  • You can dress it up or down.
  • It can be worn just about anywhere, any time of year, and with just about anything.
  • Age doesn’t matter because it comes in all lengths.

Style tip:  How to Wear a Tiered Skirt

A tiered skirt can be worn with tees and tanks, flats or heels, over a swimsuit and for travel.

The rule of thumb is to wear it with sandals and lightweight tops in the warmer months, and to layer it and add tights and boots in the colder months.  In transitional weather, add a topper like a jacket or cardigan.

Because of its versatility, all you have to do is style it with attention to proportion.  Then look in the mirror for a final assessment before going out the door to make sure that your waistline is slim or shaped, with a fitted or tucked top.

If you wear a top that is longer in length, keep the skirt and top in the same color tone.

Or maybe you could just get away with an oversized t-shirt over, under or knotted over your tiered skirt, even if the skirt is ruffled and/or lace.

  • This was really helpful because I just always gravitate toward skirts even though I know dresses are really better for my body. Skirts almost always end up right under my boobs, making them look bigger while making my waist look smaller. I know some would like that, but I’d prefer my skirts would just stay put! On an aside, did you know Sundance Catalog is going out of business? I know you’ve linked to the site before. I was really disappointed because they had amazing items, and I loved their jewelry.

    • Hi, Marsha – Does it help to belt your skirts at the waist? Probably not because you must have tried that already….I love Sundance too and agree that it’s very disappointing to lose them. I’ll miss seeing the way they style things. Thanks for bringing it up, because I’ll have to go through my entire blog eventually to remove the links! – XO, Angie
