Style Tip of the Day: How to Make a Basic Outfit Special
Do you sometimes wonder what to add to a basic outfit to take it from plain and boring to something more? This style tip of the day is one idea for how to make a basic outfit into something special. This is an installment in my Style Tips series that you can find HERE…because age doesn’t matter when you’ve got style!
Style Tip of the Day:
Add a lace tank top to any outfit that might otherwise appear too basic.
Once you have two basic pieces such as a cardigan, jacket, t-shirt or button-up with pants or a skirt — or even a solid-color suit — the third piece to give it style can be a lace tank or camisole. The lace top can be under a plain cardigan, jacket or shirt worn open as a jacket. Or, the lace top could peek out from the top of a low v-neck or a shirt unbuttoned low. You might also layer a lace tank over a plain tank top or thin t-shirt of any sort.
This is the last weekend of summer and I’ve been wearing pieces in my wardrobe that did not get worn all season. One of them is my coral lace tank top. But this style tip is good anytime. Think of how handy it would be during the holidays — for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s breakfast — or even to throw into a suitcase for a vacation! Besides, the lace tank can be combined with cozy cardigans and fall jackets. And the bottoms could even be jogger pants or lined wool or warm layers.
Your lace tank top could be all-over lace or it could have lace trim at the neckline, straps and/or hem. It could be made of silk or t-shirt material.

I just bought a cami with lace on bottom and wondered if I could wear it under an open shirt. Thanks.
Glad to know this was helpful to you! My favorite accessory when I wear a shirt open as a jacket is a long pendant. It looks really good.
