How to Wear Yoga Pants Out and About

I think yoga pants get a bad rap.  But perhaps I view them from a unique angle.  I wear leggings but I do not have any yoga leggings.  All my yoga pants are boot-cut.  I find them comfortable because they have the stretch of leggings; and I find them convenient because they go easily from yoga practice to the street.  So let’s take a closer look at how to wear yoga pants out and about.

I’ll wear yoga pants not only when doing yoga but also when lounging at home, when doing errands around town and when at business casual events.  It depends on the type of yoga pants.  Black ones in a nice material can even by styled for casual evenings.

The main thing to keep in mind when wearing yoga pants is that your top should come down low enough all the way around so that it covers your rear.  That’s the difference between classy and trashy.  And when you’re classy, age doesn’t matter.

Dressed-Up Day/Casual Evening:

  • A longer-length black sequin top + black yoga pants.  Accessorize for either day or evening.
  • A longer-length tank top or a tunic + yoga pants.  Add a long scarf in a pretty color + short chain necklaces + flats.

Business Casual

There are yoga pants available in dressier fabrics.   I got a pair in charcoal gray from Dots, a discount store chain that is no longer in business.  And I also got a pair in a textured gray material from Victoria’s Secret when it was selling women’s clothing.  They are stretchy and comfortable and have lasted a long time, as you may be able to tell since the stores I bought them from are no longer selling them.  I’ve had them for at least ten years or maybe twenty or more.  I found some at Betabrand, below.  If you find more sources for this, let us know by leaving a reply below!

Me in yoga pants

Here I am at Polish Village Cafe in yoga pants after attending a yoga class.  I just switched my yoga t-shirt for a tank top and velvet duster and added accessories.  In about ten minutes, I was out the door and comfortable too!
