Age doesn't matter.

Style Tip of the Day: Plaid Love

This style tip of the day is part of my Style Tips series (you can find it HERE.) I know many of you love plaid. Age doesn’t matter. Its versatile because:  it’s great for print mixing, contains more than one color for color mixing and goes with dressy or casual pieces for laid-back days or casual evenings (whether in or out.) Check out this style tip of the day for some plaid love and see how amazing you can make this staple look!

Style Tip:  Wear two plaids in one outfit.

A Plaid Top with Plaid Pants or Skirt

Style tip of the day:  the Kyoto Plaid Top from Free People worn with plaid pants

Got plaid pants or a plaid skirt? Combine it with a plaid shirt that has at least one color in common and work from there. This example has tan in the shirt and tan in the pant combined with tan boots. An ivory coat, hat and belt echo the white in the shirt and the ivory in the pants. Even though the belt has a silver buckle, metals are mixed by adding gold neck chains.

A Plaid Jacket and Plaid Blanket Scarf

Plaid Pants or Skirt and a Plaid Scarf

With any plaid piece you have, add a plaid scarf of any sort. As long as there’s at least one color in common, it’ll go. And since there are neutrals in most plaids, it should be an easy matchup. It’s a good idea – but not totally necessary – to use coordinating colors in the outfit.

Here you see two different plaids made of the same colors. This makes combining them super easy! The sweater is of the same colors, but you could add a contrasting color with ease since the plaids are neutral.

Plaid Tunic and Plaid Pants

Style tip of the day:  the Wild Side Tunic from Free People worn with plaid pants

Here’s a plaid tunic shirt with plaid pants.  They are in two neutral palettes of the same shades. You can pop on a vest in a color that’s within the plaids. Then you can always add accessories in metallics because they are neutral.

Plaid Dress and a Plaid Shawl, Poncho or Ruana

Thousand-In-One-Ways Wool-Blend Turtleneck

Style tip: Rosie Assoulin Thousand-In-One-Ways Wool-Blend Turtleneck from Moda Operandi with plaid dress and plaid shawl

A black turtleneck goes with just about anything. The plaid coat dress and plaid blanket scarf both contain ivory and black, so the third color in each can be totally different.

Style Tip: Wear more than one plaid such as a plaid dress, shirt, scarf, bag and boots – From Burberry Fall 2020
