Style Tip of the Day: Colorful Outfit Ideas

As part of my Style Tips Series, here’s a style tip of the day to inspire colorful outfit ideas! Although this tip combines trending colors of this fall and winter season, it’s also a classic formula that works any time of the year. Age doesn’t matter.

Kalidescope Color Block Scarf from Free People with a bright-color shirt jacket and neutral bottoms make a colorful outfit.

Style Tip of the Day:

Choose a neutral color (camel, tan, brown, gray, navy, denim blue, white, black, etc.) plus a bold or bright color. Add a third pop of color or a printed scarf that has both colors in it.

Use whatever colors you have.

If you want to use the Autumn/Winter 2021-22 colors, the neutrals are cream, gray sand and olive. And the bold colors being featured are red, yellow, blue and green. For more about how to combine the new fall/winter colors now, see HERE.

Nora in a scarf from Just Style LA with a blue print and yellow stripes is worn with blue jeans and a yellow blouse shows how this style tip of the day is useful no matter the season.

An easy way to do this is to first choose a scarf or third piece that has both a neutral and bold color in the print and then find a top and bottom in those colors.

  • I have to learn to be less minimalistic and add color. I think I’m so used to grays and blacks that I forget a tunic or top with color is more flattering.

    • I’ve toned down my black mania and now I’m noticing that I’m overdoing the grays. Black is so edgy and gray is so cozy. But I’m a bright person color-wise. I have become aware that wearing my best colors close to my face bring out my bright personality and promote a younger look. But more than that, Pantone chose bold colors for Autumn/Winter 2021-22 to cheer us all up! Colors can heal…

  • What a great post, and such fantastic styling ideas! Thank you for sharing this! Now I am off to look into my closet to see how I can incorporate some of these ideas!

    • I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been inspired! I print out my posts and save them for when I want to think of something new to wear (without buying anything.) I’m off to look in my closet around the same time as you. Lol! Have fun and be your true self. Thanks for visiting – Angie

    • You can absolutely wear bold colors even if muted colors are your best. You would just need to choose them in a soft shade, like Pantene’s Mykonos Blue in a softer shade for instance. On the other hand, if you like to throw caution to the wind, just be Your True Self and wear what you love. 😉
