New Book is a Helpful Guide on How to Eat Healthy

This is an update to my original book review on “How Healthy People Eat” by Kristen Coffield of The Culinary Cure. Since my recent illness (see my blog post on that HERE), I feel more than ever that Kristen’s work is important to lifelong health and wellness. As I struggled with a severe inflammatory reaction to the Covid vaccines, I discovered a detox diet that has been helping my body to make a strong recovery. Kristen’s book is a helpful guide on how to eat healthy that I feel is an important resource to get well and stay well.

How Healthy People Eat:  An Eater’s Guide to Healthy Habits is by Kristen Coffield of The Culinary Cure blog.

Kristen’s Story

During a difficult period in her life, Kristen used the power of food to overcome challenges during a difficult period in her life. She was diagnosed with cancer, fighting depression, in debt, struggling in her marriage and trying to maintain a semblance of normal life for her family. All her energy went into getting through each day. She felt exhausted and depleted. She decided to focus on the power of food to detox and strengthen her body and her life. And it worked! Food changed her life and she firmly believes it can change yours, too.

Kristen had worked her way through Columbia University with her own catering company. So she already had a passion for healthy cooking. That inspired her to create meals that would maximize her health, using food as medicine.

From skills she had acquired working for herself, doing community service and raising children, opportunities began to present themselves:

  • teaching the power of plant based foods on a regular television segment, and
  • invitations to inspire as a speaker, writer and coach.

From there, she created a platform to help others find their inner and outer strengths and take control of their own longevity. She started her blog to share what she learned about how food can heal the body. And now she has launched a book about how to eat for health, one bite at a time.

What’s in Kristen’s Guide on How to Eat Healthy

How Healthy People Eat takes you one step at a time through the components of how and what to eat for good health. Each main idea is a framed statement that helps to make a note of it in your mind. They look like they could be copied as post-it notes and kept on your fridge as reminders.

If you follow Kristen on Twitter, you will see what I mean:  she often has words of inspiration in framed text boxes.

Her book has three sections:

  1. The first section of her book is “Eat Well. Be Well.” It emphasizes the points needed to create everyday food practices that nourish and support us.
  2. The second section is “Food as Medicine.” It lists alphabetically key foods that have the biggest impact  and what they do for your health.
  3. The third section is the “Culinary Pharmacy.” It alphabetically lists the herbs and spices that can heal you and how.

From knowing Kristen through our work together on Fashion Flash, I have found her to be a constant inspiration in redirecting my attention to the healthiest food options. You can learn more and get your copy of the book HERE.

  • Food is my medicine. I eat plant-based: a variety of colourful vegetables and fruit, an abundance of grains, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes. At 69 I feel great and have lots of energy. 🙂

    Here’s to our health!
