Age doesn't matter.

What Is an All-Time Favorite Instant Evening Look Maker for Fall & Winter?

An easy way to get dressed up for evening is to grab a pretty top and wear it with simple pants or basic skirt. But for cold weather, you probably want more so another layer is called for. I’m sure you can guess what the all-time instant evening look maker for Fall & Winter is:  an embellished cardigan or duster. That’s because it really doesn’t matter what your basic outfit is, whether it’s something you wore all day or if it’s a dress or a basic top and bottom. Just layer on this beautiful third piece and you’re ready for a good time. Age doesn’t matter.

This blog is where I share my ideas for the many different ways you can wear your clothes. So I hope the outfit combinations below inspire you to get more enjoyment out of what you have.

Evening Look Makers for Fall & Winter

Besides an embellished cardi or duster, a velvet duster is an evening look maker too. Sometimes a duster is called a kimono duster and there are duster cardigans, simply meaning that they are longer length. A kimono is another piece that makes an instant evening look. The reason I left it out of this post is because I find it uncomfortable to get kimono sleeves into an outdoor jacket or coat.

Loosely organized into categories, here are some of the things to wear with an instant evening look maker for Fall & Winter.

The duster above is a variation of embellishment, as it’s the threaded design that’s the special touch. If you have more knowledge to share about jacquard, please do let us know. Leave a reply below this post.

  • I love all of the tops you’ve shown. I will look into the Ann Taylor cardi for an elevated jean look. I have several kimonos and longer, dusters, but I am stumped on what to wear over them in our cold New England temps?

    • I think of embellished cardigans for winter and dusters for fall for that very reason. It can be difficult to put a coat over duster sleeves that are big and draped in unique shapes. Ditto for having a coat long enough to keep the bottom of a long duster from showing at the bottom. Some women have no problem with wearing a coat over a kimono, but I feel uncomfortable with it. Although I do remember I wore my velvet duster on my way to Christmas at my brother’s. I guess it was the same color as my coat. That worked! Now that you mention it, I might try layering with scarves over a longer coat with dusters to create a more intentional look. Or maybe I could belt or tie or pin up a duster while the coat is on. You got me brainstorming. Lol!
