How to Choose What Color Accessories to Wear With Your Outfit

In this blog, I aim to share outfit ideas and new combinations with you. I love variety and am interested in using what I have without having to buy new things (unless I just love them!) And color is so much fun. I am presenting a few ideas for how to choose what color accessories to wear with your outfits.  This complements my posts on colors that harmonize with the basic color of your garment and outfit ideas based on color.  Age doesn’t matter when you flatter your complexion.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Your Outfit?

Of course, wear accessories that match the color of your outfit. That adds texture to monochrome. But do you ever wonder what color accessories might not quite go with what you’re wearing? There are some who figure anything will go. It’s actually a good thing to try something you aren’t sure of to see if it’s actually a fresh new combination that you’ll love. Use my color charts (HERE) to help you choose accessories in colors that will harmonize with the basic color of your outfit. 

Beads are a great way to add color to any outfit. Pick your favorites! And turquoise jewelry is another easy way to accessorize any outfit.

I always like to mention that animal prints go with everything. So this is your reminder that you can spice up any color outfit by accessorizing with animal prints.

Tip:  An easy way to create a mini capsule wardrobe

Choose a scarf. What is the background color and the other colors? Choose a t-shirt, a cardigan, a sweater and two pairs of pants in the neutral or ground colors of the scarf.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Blue

• Pair a teal necklace with a blue top.
• Tuck a blue top into a blue-green skirt. Add multiple strands of coral beads at collar and a concho belt.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Red

• Choose a turquoise necklace to wear with a red or yellow top.
• Add tan & gold accessories to a red dress.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Orange

• Wear green with an orange outfit.
• Add turquoise and/or coral jewelry to an orange top, topper or dress.
• Tan goes great with orange!

What Color Accessories to Wear With Rust

• Wear rust clothing with tan accessories.
• Rust goes great with navy blue!
• Add burgundy accessories, including garnets, to a rust dress, top or duster. You might also like to add yellow accents.
• Certain shades of orange can blend well with a rust outfit.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Pink

1. Add multi-color beads to a pink dress.
2. With a pink top & neutral bottoms, add red bag and/or accessories.
3. Add a mint-color scarf to pink tops.
4. Add clear-color jewelry to pink dresses, tops or toppers. That includes clear quartz crystal, diamonds, cubic zirconia, etc.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Purple

• Outfit formula:  add long turquoise necklaces over a purple tunic over blue jeans.
• Add a green scarf to a purple dress.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Shades of White

Shades of white go from pure white to cream to beige.

1. Coral adds a nice pop of color to a white outfit.
2. Add navy blue to a white outfit. Then accessorize with yellow or purple.
3. Pair a white peasant top with blue jeans. Then add multiple strands of turquoise beads and a couple of gold bangles.
4. Or, wear a jean jacket over a long ivory top or tunic & white skinnies. Add tan booties & turquoise jewelry.
5. Pair a white tunic with white skinnies. Then add coral jewelry & a tan bag. 
   

   

6. Add lavender accessories to a white outfit to create a calming effect.
7. Wear a white lace tunic over skinny jeans & embellished flip flops. Add a blue tassel pendant.
8. Add yellow accessories to a white top & blue jeans.
9. For a natural look, wear brown accessories with a beige top and/or bottom.
10. A nice neutral look is:  an ivory tank inside ivory straight-leg pants or jeans belted in tan + an ivory lace duster + small gold hoop earrings & tan heeled sandals.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Black

• With black as a backdrop, you can accessorize with multiple colors.
• Wear blue accessories with an LBD. For instance, throw a blue shawl over one shoulder of a long black dress. Then add a blue choker + bracelets + rings + black heels.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Brown

• Greens go with a brown outfit.
• Turquoise accessories go beautifully with your brown clothing.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Gray

1. A gray t-shirt + black pants + an indigo cardigan + an emerald green necklace.
2. Add a periwinkle scarf to an all-gray outfit or gray & white.
3. Blue adds vibrancy to gray and black. Add a blue bag or accessory to a gray top & black pants with black ballet flats.
4. Add burgundy accessories to a charcoal gray outfit.
5. Start with a long gray cardigan over gray skinnies + a black top. Then add teal accessories.

What Color Accessories to Wear With Navy

• Add coral and/or turquoise to a navy outfit.
• When shopping at the mall, pair a navy sweater or other top with blue jeans. Than add a red scarf & a navy purse.
• Add smoky (gray) crystal necklace & earrings to a navy dress.
