Age doesn't matter.

Dozens of Ways to Get a Long, Lean Look With This Outfit Formula

I was recently admiring a fashion “uniform” that I decided to wear more often. So for today’s style tip, I’m offering this outfit formula to inspire you as well. Take a look in your closet to see what items you have that can be combined using this idea. I have come up with a couple dozen combos below to help you get started with your own variations on this theme.

Here’s the Style Tip:

Wear a tunic over skinny jeans or leggings and maybe top this outfit with a long, flowing cardigan, kimono or vest. Accessorize with a long pendant necklace.

How to Get a Long, Lean Look With This Outfit Formula

A long top, long topper, long pendant and skinnies mean a long, lean look for your body. To make it even more so, keep it monochrome:  all black or all one color. If it’s all black or all white, vary the textures. Another plus to this outfit formula is that it is forgiving to your figure. So age doesn’t matter.

The tunic top should be flowing or lacy. It could be a slip dress or top extender. A top extender is a long, tunic-length tank top, t-shirt or camisole that you can wear alone or under a shorter top. For more about top extenders, see my post HERE. You could also take a too-short dress, such as a crochet or lace or chiffon or silky dress and wear it over pants (skinny jeans or leggings.)

The topper could be a kimono or lace cardigan. Another option is a flowing and/or lace-hem tunic with a jean jacket…as long as the material showing below the jacket is delicate and flowing. Chiffon, crochet or a soft material such as crushed velvet can also work nicely over a tunic top.

Distressed skinny jeans are even better than regular skinny jeans when you want to dress down. Printed leggings, including animal print, are an option with certain tunics. If the weather is cold, you could wear faux leather leggings or coated skinny jeans or leggings. Jeggings, or denim leggings, are another option.

For footwear, try wedges or boots.
