How to Improve Your Look in the Rain

April showers bring May flowers (hopefully), but it’s not so much fun for humans to get rained on.  It can feel quite miserable when wind and chill are added into the challenges of the day.  I have a few ideas for what to wear to stay warm and dry.  Age doesn’t matter.  Feel free to try new ideas and experiment!  Read more to find out how to improve your look in the rain… Continue Reading

Are Cheat Days Good For Your Diet?

cheatmeals_2.3

This is a diary of the healthy lifestyle goals that my son, Chris, and I are making together each month.  Since it takes 21-30 days to develop a new habit, making a goal for the month ahead is an effective strategy.

The buddy system is one of the main ways to get motivated. I’ve always found that if I say out loud to someone what I plan on doing, I’m more likely to do it.  Because if I say I will, I feel responsible to follow through.

Age doesn’t matter.  It’s never too late.  You can always make progress and actually reverse the signs of aging!

Last month, Chris wanted to try adding one cheat day a week to his diet to see if it made it easier for him to stick with his good diet habits the rest of the time. I thought it sounded like a good idea, so I made the same goal for the month of March.  Here’s what happened:

How to Make More Outfits Out of What You Have

I’ve created a checklist for you of what you need to have on hand for Spring and Summer in order to create outfits for every occasion.  Age doesn’t matter because all of these items are classic and basic pieces.  They will make it easy for you to make more outfits out of what you have. To make them fun as well as useful, check out what is trending. Wearing something new and modern makes you look young.

Maybe you already have all or most of these essentials.  If not, April is the time of year when spring clothing is on sale.  So it’s a good time to fill in gaps in your warm-weather wardrobe, or upgrade things that are wearing out (or wearing out their welcome).

Is Your Lipstick Killer In More Ways Than One?

Extra lipsticks had to go!

I have sensitive skin, so years ago I did an overhaul of my beauty products by getting rid of anything that was not hypoallergenic or pure and natural.  I continued to use up the body products I already had, though, keeping them away from my sensitive face and decollete.  As you can see in my “extra makeup” basket above, I was sticking with Almay and Physicians’ Formula and Burt’s Bees and natural makeup as much as possible.  I figured I could still use whatever lipstick I wanted because my lips never broke out in a rash.

Then my husband alerted me that someone told him there was lead in lipstick.  And recently on Facebook and Instagram, friends spoke up about it.

How could this be?!

So I did a spring cleaning of my lipsticks and threw out about 60% of them.  Then I went online to find out what lipsticks had lead and which ones didn’t.  I’m sharing my list with you (in three parts below).

My thinking is that age doesn’t matter.  Whenever you start to improve your lifestyle, by becoming vigilant about the purity of your cosmetics or whatever, you can improve your health.  You can get better and better all the time.

Now that spring has sprung (or at least begun), the countdown to the lazy hazy days of baring more body has begun.  Age doesn’t matter.  We’ll all be wanting to wear way less clothing in the hot, sunny days ahead.  And really, we should all be getting our regular exercise, if not to get in shape then to improve our health!

The stores are aware of this, so every year they help motivate us to get to the gym with sales on athletic wear, running shoes and sneakers.  March and April are the best time of year to buy these.

Sarah Jane Adams at MyWrinklesAreMyStripes on Instagram is partial to Adidas shoes and shows how to rock them in your 60’s or anytime you like.  (See above.)

I looked at the sales on women’s sneakers, and they don’t just cover athletic shoes.  There are some serious shoes and then there are some seriously awesome-looking shoes.  You can get high-performance for the gym and some street cred, too.

Here are just a half dozen samples of what you can find right now:
