How to Meditate: Free & Easy Ways to Calm Your Mind

I have seen people shy away from meditating because they think it is too time-consuming or they just don’t know how.  I took bio-feedback to learn meditation and was taught how to go into an alpha state.  But after 40 years of meditation, journaling, prayer and Tai Chi, I can tell you that in the end meditating is simple.

You can do it in 17 seconds or just for a minute while sitting at your desk.  You can do it while you are in the shower or walking or standing in line.  Age doesn’t matter.

If you meditate first thing in the morning, you can make it a good day.  Meditation at bedtime can help you fall asleep.

Meditation is basically a matter of focusing on something.  You can focus on something that makes you happy or on something that keeps you from thinking and worrying.

3 Links To Make You Proud of Your Age

0917 allure cover

A brilliant article in appreciation of aging appears in the September 2017 issue of Allure magazine written by Editor-in-Chief Michelle Lee.  It’s a must-read!  Lee has already said it all, but as I always say “Age Doesn’t Matter!”  Get an issue today and add her article to your inspiration board.  Everything she says is important, but I will try to give you some key ideas here:

Allure produced a video recently that featured 64-year-old gray-haired Jo Johnson, who declared that aging should be appreciated because “some of us don’t get an opportunity to age.” Growing older is a wonderful thing because it means that we get a chance, every day, to live a full and happy life.
  • Together we can start to change the conversation and celebrate the beauty in all ages.

I strive to be happy every day, no matter what is happening around me.  The main thing I do is search for the good things in each day, and think about all of the things I appreciate and am grateful for.  I’ve gotten through many difficult times by meditating, using the mantra “om”, and doing yoga and tai chi.  Of course, prayer is another way to rise above adversity.

There are many ways to achieve happiness, and we all have our own favorites.  But I’m always interested in knowing more about how people get happy.  Every day is another chance to form new habits.  Age doesn’t matter.

Before I share with you the habits that bring joy, I want to quote a powerful reminder of what truly makes us happy.  In “The Simple Guide to Being Wonderful” in Spirituality & Health magazine, Emma Seppala, PhD, concludes: Continue Reading
