True Confessions: Why Have I Lived in Detroit All This Time?

For the last 40 years, my husband Russ and I have lived in Detroit.  At first, we lived in the Cass Corridor.  Then we bought my Aunt Anne’s house on the northeast side.  We have lived been here for 31 years because Russ didn’t want to leave Detroit.

The Cass Corridor had a bad reputation back when we lived there.  My own family stopped coming to visit us because they thought our home in northeast Detroit was in a dangerous area.  My sisters were amazed that I would continue to live here because of my husband’s wishes.  I don’t usually invite people over to our house anymore, since the foreclosures took over the area in recent years and the Emergency Manager took away some of our public services.

So why are we here, and what’s good about Detroit?  There are lots of reasons, from the personal to the ideal.

How to Make Natural Jewelry Cleaner Quickly and Easily

I found this easy, natural way to clean jewelry by FP Brigette and would like to share it with you because it works so well.  My husband even filled a tray with crusty old coins and they got clean in ten minutes this way!  This solution just bubbles away all tinges of tarnish, etc.  (Just like Scrubbing Bubbles cleans the bathroom.  Lol!)  Whatever methods you’ve used in the past, age doesn’t matter.  This is a great new way to make a seemingly impossible job so quick and easy.

How to Meditate: Free & Easy Ways to Calm Your Mind

I have seen people shy away from meditating because they think it is too time-consuming or they just don’t know how.  I took bio-feedback to learn meditation and was taught how to go into an alpha state.  But after 40 years of meditation, journaling, prayer and Tai Chi, I can tell you that in the end meditating is simple.

You can do it in 17 seconds or just for a minute while sitting at your desk.  You can do it while you are in the shower or walking or standing in line.  Age doesn’t matter.

If you meditate first thing in the morning, you can make it a good day.  Meditation at bedtime can help you fall asleep.

Meditation is basically a matter of focusing on something.  You can focus on something that makes you happy or on something that keeps you from thinking and worrying.
