Age doesn't matter.

How to Wear Pink in Meaningful and Unlimited Ways

Wearing pink is one way to support breast cancer awareness during the month of October.  I have already published a blog post “How to Look Good in Pink in a Variety of Ways” in June.  Now that it’s October, I want to give you ways to wear pink in the fall and winter.  I hope that this will make it easy for you to show your support for preventing and curing breast cancer without even saying a word!  I hope these tips will help you to find new ways to enjoy this color the rest of the year.  So whether it’s October or any other time, I’m going to show how to wear pink in meaningful and unlimited ways!

The most effective way to combat breast cancer is to tell Congress to adequately fund research to prevent and treat breast cancer.  Every American has two Senators and one U.S. Representative to serve them.

Prevention is the best way to sustain breast health.  We must personally take care of our bodies and our true selves:

  • Learn to check yourself monthly.
  • Schedule an annual breast exam.
  • Maintain a healthy diet and exercise program.
  • Center yourself in love, peace and happiness in your favorite ways such as deep breathing, immersing yourself in nature, meditating, etc.  Do what’s easiest for you!

Wearing pink is a color that can do wonders for your complexion if it’s the right shade for you.  Whether your style is feminine or classic, tough or menswear based, age doesn’t matter.  What matters is how you combine this color with other styles to express your true self.

For the colder months, wear pink in winter fabrics or combined with autumn/winter colors and fabrics.  Cold weather fabrics include wool, tweed, velvet, etc.  Colors to combine with pink during fall and winter can be found listed below.

There are many shades of pink (just like there are 50 shades of gray; lol!), so there is a pink shade for almost everybody (unless you are best in true autumn colors).

In fact, I have found gray to be the most useful color to mix with pink.  It’s a super easy combination that works for any season.  Just take a pink top and gray bottoms and you’re good to go.  Although I like a little bit of black to make pink less girly and more smokey and mysterious, gray is the shade generally accepted as pink’s best friend.

Which Pinks Are Best on You?

The first thing to do is decide which shade of pink looks best on you.  If you have yellow tones in your skin, hair and eyes, warm pinks would be your best.  If you have blue tones in your skin, hair and eyes, cool pinks are what you should choose such as rose.  This applies to the full range of skin colors, from lightest to darkest.

There are shades of pink from mauve to raspberry to coral pink to salmon to peach and blush.  Once you choose your best tone of pink, pair it with one of your favorite colors from the list below.

If you’re like me and like an edgier or less frilly look, you can use pink in menswear or rock-style outfits.

Bold colors and jewel colors contrast with pale pink.  So try pairing pale pink with green, purple, blue, orange, red or black.

A modern trend is to add red to pink.  Burgundy is a shade of red that evokes a cool-weather feeling.

Some Ideas for Pink Outfit Combinations

Why don’t you try some of the following color combinations this fall and winter based on pinks?  If your outfit ends up looking a bit pale for fall, remedy that by using winter fabrics such as wool, velvet, tweed and such.

  • Pink + black
  • Pink + amber + caramel
  • Pink + green — including sage, olive and khaki green
  • Pink + deep turquoise, pale to medium to dark blue, or navy
  • Pink + denim

  • Pink + red, from bright to dark red such as burgundy
  • Pink + purple
  • Pink + black, if the pink is in a rich fabric like velvet, cashmere, wool or silk
  • Pink + brown
  • Pink + gray

  • Blush pink + gray or taupe
  • Fuschia + camel, brown or gray
  • Mauve + charcoal, purple or denim blue
  • Coral pink + violet + gray
  • Rose + brown and/or teal, cocoa, cool taupe, medium blue or dark-wash jeans

    • Hi, Carmen
I’m so glad you agree. I love your list of colors compatible with pink, and your colorful personality too!

  • Those are some great finds. I love all 3 of those pink jackets. Wearing pink is such a great way to raise awareness and just to let everyone who has in the past or is currently suffering through breast cancer know that you support them and are thinking of them.

  • This is an excellent post, especially for those of us who tend to think of pink just for spring ans summer. I have both dressy and casual gray bottoms and will try my pink cashmere cardigan with both. Thanks!
