8 Ways to Easily Look as Slim as You Like

1) Wear All Black

I’m sure everyone knows this, so enough said!

2) Wear Vertical Stripes

Another trick that is widely known is that vertical stripes elongate the appearance of your body.  Despite the fact that the pants above are wide-legged, the vertical stripes repeated from top to bottom extend a long line.  Striped pants alone can make the leg look longer than it is.

3) Wear A Column of Color

A black top and black bottom is commonly used as a column of color under a topper of some sort, but any color will work.  The white top and white pants above create a slice of white in a vertical line because the cardigan narrows what you see.

4) Go Monochrome

In place of all black, wearing the same color top and bottom is still slimming no matter the color.  Even though the pants above are cropped, the matching spice color top and bottom create a long, unbroken line.

5) Wear Pants or Jeans with a Stripe of Any Sort Down the Leg

Even a patterned stripe can slim the line of the pant leg.  As you can see above, the geometric strip down the side of the jeans cuts through the denim color so that it turns the denim blue on each side of the strip into a narrow vertical line.

This works with the relaxed legs of athletic pants, leggings, and even black leggings that have a strip of faux black leather or a sheer inset down the side.

6) Accessorize with a Long Pendant

A long pendant draws the eye down and up in a vertical line of vision and it slices down the middle of your top.  This especially works well when you have a top that is too wide or boxy for you.  It can also break up the horizontal lines on a striped top.

7) Accessorize with a Long Scarf

A long scarf worn straight down in front creates the vertical lines you’re looking for in order to create a slimmer silhouette.

8) Top Your Outfit With a Long Vest or Sleeveless Blazer

By now, you can probably tell that looking slimmer is all about creating vertical lines in your outfit.  So why not try a long vest or sleeveless blazer worn open to narrow the line of what you are wearing under it?

  • It seems to me that the ladies above are wanting to look anorexic. To look as slim as you want to does not apply to women who are fluffy. It’s odd that clothing is fashioned for the slim in media, magazines, and runways. There are hardly any fluffy girl pictures.Simply because slender ladies don’t want to see that side of the spectrum, neither do the masses. It’s what sells. I have never seen so many fluffy ladies with hardly any other color choices than black or black and white or unfashionable colors. Fluffy ladies want the current styles and color too. I am speaking of catalog sales where you can find a size that will maybe fit. Forgive me for saying you dress women of all shapes but none of those larger ladies are shown .Some of the mature women may be a bit midrange. They have so many pieces of clothing on hardly anyone larger would be caught dead in them. I’d look like a circus tent. Larger women have style. But they aren’t made. Numbers do matter. $. At what price point can they be found? I often hear things are changing for larger women but not seen it coming over the years. This is perpetuated by articles like this and so many many others. Larger ladies are left feeling degraded and broken.
Thank you for your time. Please do not take this personally. This is a global problem depending on the country we live in. Maybe you can start by trying to break some of the public’s perceptions. Not just by words but images. Ellen

    • Hi, Ellen – You are so right; my sentiments exactly! As I search all over the internet for photos that show the outfits I am discussing in my blog posts, I am constantly frustrated trying to find models who are Goddess-sized or over 60 or even of various nationalities. I constantly find young girls with all their skin showing. It is very annoying. If you like, though, I will spend a week looking for photos of fluffy women to replace the photos of women in this post who are slim to begin with. Give me at least a week’s notice or a month or two so I can work on it. And then come back and give me your follow-up reaction. Let’s continue this discussion. We’ll see what I can find if I put in extra time searching. It’s hard, so we’ll just see what can be done. Thank you for sharing your in-depth perceptions on this matter! – Angie
