15 Powerful Ways to Speak Your Truth with a T-Shirt

Looking forward to the 2020 elections, t-shirts are being worn in support of various candidates already.  You can add caps and buttons to your outfit of the day as well.  Age doesn’t matter.  Anyone can choose to express themselves with the way they dress, including wearing the slogans of their choice.  So I have come up with more than 15 ways to speak your truth with a t-shirt.

So now, let’s take a look at over 15 powerful ways to speak your truth with a t-shirt.

Vivienne Westwood is a designer who has used political t-shirts in her designs throughout her career.  Looking over her work, I got the idea that those of you who love to do it yourself could paint graffiti over a slogan you don’t like on a t-shirt…perhaps on a tee that you pick up at a secondhand store.

Westwood inspires outfit ideas with punk influences.  Aquamarina Style created the following list of punk elements.  You could use these to good effect with a political tee:

• Animal prints
• Plaid or neutral-colored button-up shirts
• Skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans
• Converse shoes or Vans
• Add a pop of color to an all-black outfit.  It doesn’t have to match any of the colors in the slogan on your black t-shirt.  Try a neon color, silver or red.
• Accessorize with chains, safety pins, hats.
• Throw in glitter, temporary tattoos, rubber bracelets.
• You might like to add color to your hair with hair chalk or colored hair spray.

15 Outfit Ideas for New and Different Ways to Wear a Political Tee

1. Tuck a political t-shirt inside any skirt, from sequin to velvet to corduroy to denim.  Accessorize as desired.
2. A black political tee tucked into an animal-print skirt.  Add a studded black belt.  If it’s cool out, add a faux leather jacket.  Add black tights or fishnet stockings + boots.
3. A black political tee + a tulle skirt in black, charcoal or navy.  Add biker boots.  If cool, you might also like to tie a plaid shirt over and/or add a black or red or studded faux leather jacket.
4. A political tee tucked inside a midi-skirt or culottes + a draped jacket.  Add a belt + platform shoes or wedge heels.
5. A political tee over a long-sleeve lace top + any bottoms.
6. A political tee + navy bottoms to tone to the color of a jean jacket.
7. A political tee over trousers + oxfords.  If chilly, add a menswear coat or jacket.

   

8. A plaid shirt worn open as a jacket over a political tee + jeans + sneakers.
9. A political tee tucked inside pinstripe pants.  Add a belt + a scarf twisted around neck and tied off to the side + arm warmers + peep-toe booties + colorful stockings.
10. A political tee + a pantsuit + sneakers.
11. A faux leather jacket over a political tee + jeans.  Add a cap and anything else that strikes your fancy.
12. A political tee + faux leather pants.
13. An oversize black political tee + black skinnies + black Converse shoes or biker boots.  Add a studded black belt.
14. A black political tee tucked into a black faux leather skirt + a plaid shirt worn open as a jacket.  Accessorize with any of the following:  black stockings or fishnets + a black studded belt + a studded purse/bag + layered bracelets (perhaps with rubber or spikes)  + boots (black, lace-up, biker, etc.)
15. A political tee + cargo pants.  Add feather earrings.
