How to Wear the Popular Earth Tones for Fall and Winter

Earth tones are the basic neutrals that continue to be a classic component of cold-weather style year after year. They are the backdrop or even the monochrome composition for other trending colors during the cold seasons. Think spice colors and all sorts of browns including mustard, turmeric, curry, cinnamon, maize, gold, burnt orange, cognac, chestnut, saddle brown, toffee, coffee, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, camel, tan, sand, taupe, khaki, stone, oxblood, burgundy, maroon, bronze, rust, tortoiseshell and animal patterns in these earthy shades. Include greens such as olive, forest, sage and moss for even more options. You can mix earth tones with ANY palette. Age doesn’t matter. So let’s take a look at how to wear the ever-popular earth tones for Fall and Winter!

  • My sister and I have similar coloring yet she looks great in these autumn shades and I’m not comfortable wearing them. I need to add touches in to make myself used to these beauties.

    • If you happen to have cool coloring, the warm tones won’t flatter you. But you can find cool shades of brown, maroon, burgundy and khaki. Another way to add touches of earth tones is to wear them on the bottom as pants, skirts or shoes; or away from your face as a bag or belt. I hope you find ways to enjoy your favorite colors!

  • I love this! Spice colors and earth tones have my name on them. In fact, I brought my olive outfit with me to Maine this past weekend. And I wore spice and mustard the previous weekend to the theater. Yay, I’m on trend!
