Age doesn't matter.

Why Is Red the Most Brilliant Color Choice for Fall Fashion?

It’s time for the Barbie pinks of summer to mature to reds that can stop traffic. Focus on wearing red to get you in the mood for autumn. This color change will take your summer outfits to fall, even if they don’t include sweaters or cozy knits. The color is cozy itself, as fiery as the autumn leaves. But there’s more to it than that. I dove right in to explore why red is the most brilliant color choice for fall fashion.

Whether in clothing or jewelry, red has a cheerful effect to perk up your wardrobe and your mood.  It makes you stand out from the crowd. If you buy new pieces in this shade, it’s going to last because it is a forever classic. And so, age doesn’t matter.

Red Clothes

If you can score a faux leather item in red, it’s the hottest way to wear this color as the weather cools.

The foundations of your wardrobe — jackets, pants, skirts, dresses and knitwear — allow the intensity of this color to take center stage.
Wear red from head to toe if you want to stand out. And besides, you’ll look slimmer when you wear all one color. Choose different shades of red to help break the outfit up.

7 Ways to Wear Red for Fall

  1. Add a red topper of any sort over your favorite summer clothes.
  2. If you are feeling really bold, wear red shoes, red trousers, and a red shirt. This outfit would be perfect for a fashion show or a trip to the city.[1]
  3. Wear a red dress if you want to create a classic and feminine look.
  4. If you want a sexy and fun look, choose a fitted dress with a V-neck.
  5. Create a formal look by wearing a grey or gold blazer over a deep red dress.
  6. For a street look, wear a leather jacket over a red dress.
  7. In the fall and winter, layer black leggings under your red dress. This creates a classy feel, so you can wear this for work or going out.

Red Accessories

Red accessories add texture to red clothing or a pop of color to neutrals. A punchy handbag in the vibrant hue or a classic shoe, like a kitten heel or loafer, goes a long way when paired with your go-to khaki trench coat or favorite black blazer.

  • Big fan of red for autumn, and wearing it in today’s blog post. I love the Anthropologie red skirt. Thanks for linking at #WowOnWednesday Angie

    • I’m so glad you gave me the feedback on that, because as I was typing in the colors I wondered if it was helpful for my readers. I do use my color combinations to create outfits. It takes some searching through my wardrobe, but it also causes me to find new outfits I wouldn’t have thought of. So the results are rewarding!

  • I love wearing red. It can make the right pop of color, up the mood and there is a shade for everybody. A warm red paired with olive and brown is posh without being over the top. A cool red looks great with silver/gray and black. The muted and pastel versions like burgundy and pink are almost neutrals. Thus, one can make a quasi-monochromatic look easily.

    • Hi, Nicole – I appreciate you adding your insights! Yes, indeed, burgundy/wine color is a colored neutral, so it can be combined with any other color. Pale pink/blush also works like a neutral. Thanks for taking the time of comment. XO – Angie
