Style Tip: How to Put Together a Cool Summer Suit

On hot summer days, when I have business to do or maybe a meeting or lunch with a friend, I like to create a cool summer suit from what I have in my closet. So I thought I’d share this style recipe with you so that you can benefit from it too. It can help you to feel comfortable while looking classy. Age doesn’t matter.

Today’s style tip was inspired by the book Hot Tips:  1000 Fashion & Beauty Tricks by Frances Patiky Stein.

The Kooples Relaxed-fit button-down silk shirt from Selfridges with black cotton trousers and a white tee.

Style Tip of the Day:

Summer suit:  Take a silk shirt & matching cotton pant (or skirt.) Leave the shirt open as a jacket and slide a t-shirt underneath.

  • For city day — Add a belt and sandal in (faux) leather.
  • For country — Twist & knot a cotton scarf as a belt, or use a length of hemp rope knotted at both ends to keep it from fraying!
Signature Shirt in Black Hammered Silk from The Array with black pants and white tee makes a cool summer suit.

As you may notice in many of my outfit ideas throughout this blog, I often recommend wearing a shirt open over a shell top. This turns your shirt into a jacket. It’s really comfortable because it’s less buttoned up!

A printed shirt can be used just as well as a solid one. Just match your pants to a color in the top. The t-shirt should be one of the colors in the top as well.

Women’s Helek Silk Shirt from Club Monaco is just as fine with a v-neck white t-shirt.

Remember, you can add a leather belt and sandal, or a scarf belt or rope belt to this “suit.”

I hope you stay cool this summer while you take care of business!
