Color of the year from What is Viva Magenta at Pantone

What is the Color of the Year?

The Pantone Color Institute announced Viva Magenta as the color of the year for 2023.  Reflecting a brighter future, Viva Magenta is lively and warm and yet it also contains blue. It is a deep red that can merge into pink, depending on what resonates with you. Think of some variations as wine or raspberry. You choose the shade, based on your true self.

What qualities within the “magentaverse” express who you are and how you feel? Do you want to shout with joy, roar with power and break through to new life, celebrate the beauty of nature, break free from a colorless existence or explore new ways of being? Do you need to be empowered, to be filled with vim and vigor, to gather your courage and strength, to stand out at an event or to get bolder as you get older? Age doesn’t matter. Feel free to use this color of the year in any way that serves you best at this time in your life.

A Few Tips

Try magenta with other shades of pink or red, shades of blue or green, yellow, orange, purple, grays, black and white.

As always, if this is not a flattering color for you, it can easily be worn by anyone in accessories or accents away from the face. Examples are shoes, bags, bracelets, rings, brooches and belts.  Skirts and pants can work for all color types as well. So go ahead, try it out and enjoy!

“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.

Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.” — Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute

Pantone representatives stress the exuberance, lightness and fun of this color. The spiritual meaning of magenta is universal harmony. With its complex color blend, this makes sense for the time we’re in, doesn’t it? Pantone describes the qualities of Viva Magenta as follows.
