Age doesn't matter.

Animal-Print Style Tip: What Are the Best Neutral Color Pairings?

I’m kicking off a series on animal prints with a couple of style tips. The last one was about the best clothes to pair with them. Today’s animal-print style tip is about what the best neutral colors are that go with them. This will easily help you to find more ways to wear the various prints, no matter what animal they are based on or what color they are. Age doesn’t matter. Be bold, be creative and enjoy!

As I am recovering from surgery, I have to wear loose tops for awhile. That cuts down on my choices considerably. I’ve been wearing loose t-shirts and oversized sweaters. When cold, I cover up with a blanket shawl. I chose to do this animal-print series because I have some loose tops in various colors of leopard and snakeskin. I’ll be back to posting on more fitted pieces after I finish this series.

You can find my most popular Velvet Series HERE, if you would like to check it out.

Animal-Print Style Tip —

Pair an animal-print with black, cream, brown, camel or khaki.

These are the classic, popular neutrals that are the go-to colors to wear with animal prints. They keep the overall outfit classy, for the most part.

With a neutral animal print, try to create an outfit from the colors already within it. It’s a good takeoff point and goes without saying, doesn’t it?

The classic combination of black and white, or cream, is perfectly accented by an animal print.

Brown goes with gray and navy. So you don’t have to limit its use to animal prints that have brown in them. Try it with almost any animal print because there is a safari feel to it. The same goes for khaki, whether the beige tone or the greenish.

Finally, the most popular classic neutral to wear with anything, including animal prints, is black — of course! Just keep your black pieces down to only one sexy element or less. For example, pair black over-the-knee boots  with a black midi skirt or a lacy or sheer top with a black camisole under it.

  • Animal print is such a great neutral, it goes with almost everything! Best wishes for your recovery. Thanks for linking.

  • I’m definitely interested in buying one of your style guides. Will keep an eye out for them. Since major surgery, I now just want to look nice, and be healthy. Hope that your recovery goes well. From my own experience, I would say “rest!”

    • My style guides are on my Shop page, which has a tab at the top of my home page. Thanks for your interest! I know what you mean about how it feels after major surgery. After being stuck in the hospital for a week and then recovering at home, my first thought was to treat myself to getting my hair done. A good night’s sleep always makes me feel a big improvement as I rebuild my health. I really think a lot of us normally healthy people are encountering surprise health issues stemming from the pandemic.
