How to Wear Shimmery Clothes for Day: Make Your Special Pieces Useful

Want to dress up just a bit for Mother’s Day? Do you feel a need for something glam to replace your sweats and the casual clothes you may have been wearing for the last couple of years?  Wearing your shimmery clothes for day is the new way to cheer up your wardrobe and your life. The metallic trend is huge along with sequins, glitter and all that shimmers and shines! Read on for ideas on how to bring the special pieces in your closet up to the front and make them more useful.

How to Wear Shimmery Clothes for Day

One of the trends for Spring/Summer 2023 is shimmery clothes from metallics to sequins to glitter and beyond. During the pandemic, we became attached to comfort. But sweats have had their day at home. As we go out more and more, we are wanting more sparkle and shine!

First of all, most of us probably have a shimmery top, bottom, pair of shoes and/or evening bag. You have waited long enough to bring these out from the back of your closet and right up front.

Next, think of all the different ways you can wear those pieces with your everyday basics and for casual evenings. Below are some examples of how to do this.

It’s time to shine!

Actually, I have been doing this for years so I don’t know how new it is. How about you? Is this something that you do every now and then anyway?

Shimmery Tops

Start with a special top and pair it with simple bottoms, whether pants, jeans, leggings, shorts or your favorite skirts. Jean skirts are popular now and dress down shimmery tops with ease.

How about a sequin-encrusted top over your most casual blue jeans?

Watch Her Shine Tee from Free People with cargo jeans

This sequined tee is actually in pink. Pale pink and blush can be used as a neutral. See my style tip on those colors HERE. As you can see above, these color look great with stone, light gray or khaki pants. Try jeans, cargo pants, shorts and skirts as well.

Shimmery Bottoms

Shimmery Shoes

Wear any comfortable shoes that shine during the day, including flip flops. Gold is fine but there are also more opulent options like these below:

A shimmery caftan goes to the beach or a summer dinner. On the other hand, just use as it as a summer dress.

I hope you’ll enjoy wearing something shimmery during the warm season!

  • Something totally different, love it, but as I am retired I very seldom ‘dress’ up but love to see others do it.

  • Thanks for doing this Angie. I have a shirt that I’ve been debating on wearing all week long because it has sequins on it. I might just rock it with some summery capris.

  • I saw an older woman docent at Peabody Essex Museum last weekend who was such a good example of this trend. She was wearing all-white except for her top embellished with gold paillettes. She looked great
