How to Combine the New Fall/Winter Fashion Colors Now

September has come and kids are back to school. But remember, it summer doesn’t end until the Fall equinox on September 22nd. During this time, I like to explore Fall colors to get in the mood. And then when we’re in the swing of Autumn with crisp, cool temperatures followed by the cold Winter, our clothing colors automatically change to match the natural world around us. (See my Style Tip on How to Dress With the Changing Seasons HERE.) No matter what the weather, I’m here today to help you find out how to combine the new Fall/Winter fashion colors now and later in bold and creative ways! Age doesn’t matter.

This is my annual update on the Fall/Winter trending colors.

There are traditional Autumn wardrobe colors and then there are those that the Pantone Color Institute has noted as trends on the Fashion Week runways.  To find out about timeless classics, see my post “How to Use Colors That Will Get You in the Fall Spirit” HERE.

In this post, you will find out about the top ten New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Autumn/Winter 2025-2026 (A/W 2025/2026) trending colors identified by Pantone, as well as the five new core classic neutrals. Then I have a style tip for you. And finally, I will give you ways to combine these hues in your outfits.

You will be able to find variations of the colors from the New York collection in American stores easily as they stock up for Fall and Winter sales.

If you are in Europe, you might like to visit Pantone HERE for the London Fashion Week colors.

What Are the New Fall/Winter Fashion Colors?

There are three categories of colors to use this Fall & Winter:  the color of the year, the Autumn/Winter color palette and the new classic colors.

The Color of the Year:  Mocha Mousse

The official shade of Mocha Mousse from the Pantone Institute

Mocha Mousse is warm and comforting, giving us the key feeling our society yearns for this year. See my post HERE, for a full account of how to use this classy neutral in your wardrobe.

New York Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2025-2026 Colors

From Pantone

Comfort, friendship, transformation, reinvention and creation of a new future:  these are the social undercurrents of our time. This color palette provides us with hues that convey those feelings.

“Imbued with a feeling of effortless glamour, colors for NYFW Autumn / Winter 2025 / 2026 are approachable and accessible, “said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “As fashion looks for new ways forward, originating new silhouettes, materials and textures, familiar colors are being reinvented with a contemporary transformation. True creativity doesn’t always lie in the pursuit of the novel, but includes the art of reimagining, giving lots of room to play and experiment, creating individualized looks that are new and fresh.”

Lemon Grass

Stylin’ Granny Mama in “Pantone Autumn/Winter 2025 – New York Palette: Lemon Grass, Chili Oil, and French Roast”

Lemon Grass is a lemon infused green with a slightly sweet, floral note. Looks more like a pale shade of tan to me. What do you think? When choosing something to wear or buy, just shoot for something similar; it doesn’t have to be an exact match. If you like to wear something in lemon or chartreuse or lime, do your own thing!

Brandied Melon

From Soft Surroundings

This is a muted orange with a subtle spice. Brandied Melon leaves a lingering warmth on the palate.

Lyons Blue

Daybreaker Lightweight Quilted Vest from Soft Surroundings over a column of black

Lyons Blue, a deeply tinted teal, evokes a luxury reminiscent of bygone eras. This quality takes even the most basic of pieces up a notch.

I mentioned previously, in my post on what colors go best with teal, that it is a universal color that looks good on everyone.

Damson

Stylin’ Granny Mama in “…Primrose Pink, Damson and Mauve Wine…”

Damson is an intense purple whose contemporary glamour conjures a dramatically vintage feel. This is actually a shade of plum. So just look in your closet or shop with that in mind to make it easier to find.

Primrose Pink

From WoolOvers

Pink for Fall! It mixes well with Autumn colors, such as burgundy and brown. Softly delicate, Primrose Pink can gently illuminate your look and enlighten your spirit. It softens the harshness of the cold weather.

Winterberry

Crinkle Asymmetrical Shirt from Banana Republic

Winterberry is a sultry red whose sumptuous appearance gives pleasure and ignites the senses. Great for warming up and getting your energy going on cold days!

Hot Chocolate

Chili Oil

AHB Exclusive: Crushed Velvet Embroidered Cardigan

“A vital and robust red, Chili Oil is seasoned yet season-less,” says Pantone. It reminds me of the color rust.

The reddish hues in this Autumn/Winter palette ought to really keep you hot and spicy when it’s cold out!

An optical white with a brightened presence, Bright White clarifies and cleanses. If it doesn’t flatter you, wear it away from your face or as accents.

Crown Blue is a dependable, constant and ever-faithful classic blue expressive of longevity in design.

Imbued with natural grace and beauty, Mauve Wine conveys a message of refined sophistication.

How to Use the New Fall/Winter Fashion Colors

Style Tip:

The trick to looking good wearing seasonal colors is to combine them with your most flattering colors.  If they are colors that are not flattering to your skin tone, you can use the seasonal colors in your accessories.

The Trending Colors That Are Best for Your Skin Tone

Teal (Aventurine) is a universal color that looks good on everyone. Marfa Leather Jacket from Soft Surroundings

If you have golden tones in your skin, hair and/or eyes, your best colors are warm.  If you have bluish undertones in your skin, your best colors are cool.  For each trending color, note whether it is a cool or warm color.  Some are neutral (called universal colors), which can be worn by everyone.

If you are not sure whether your coloring is warm or cool, bright or soft, light or deep, you might like to check out my post “Did You Know Colors Can Make You Look Amazing?” HERE.  It contains a link to an online color consultant.

Ways to Combine the New Fall/Winter Colors

Below are some ways to combine the new fall/winter fashion colors in your wardrobe.  You might also like to think about using some of these color combinations in your home.

The color combos below should inspire you to be more daring in mixing and matching outfits. And remember, older is bolder!

When combining two trending colors, balance the rest of your outfit with neutrals.

The first set of color combos is using the named Pantone colors from A/W 2025-2026.

The second set of color combos is using the named Pantone colors from this season’s classic palette. These classic colors work together and with any of the trending colors.

A/W 2025-2026 Suggested Color Combinations

Try some of these ideas for how to combine the new A/W fashion colors:

  • Mocha Mousse  – Find out all about the color of the year, mocha mousse, at my post HERE.
  • Lemon Grass + colors in monochromatic, analogous, and complementary schemes. For example, you can pair it with shades of green, yellow, and other colors that are adjacent or opposite on the color wheel for a harmonious look.
  • Brandied Melon + shades of teal, navy blue, and soft neutrals like beige or cream. These combinations can create a balanced and appealing palette.
  • Lyons Blue (deep teal) +mustard, blush, gray, and coral. For a more dramatic look, consider combining it with colors like eggplant or lime green.
  • Damson + soft grays, muted greens, and warm neutrals. These combinations create a harmonious and balanced palette.
Dingo 1969 Primrose Leather Booties from Anthropologie
  • Primrose Pink + burgundy, brown, olive and sage green, lavender, mint, and peach, which enhance its warm tones. Avoid colors like black and dark gray, as they can overpower its softness.
  • Winterberry + soft neutrals like cream and gray, as well as complementary shades like deep navy or rich browns. These combinations create a harmonious and elegant look.
  • Hot Chocolate + cream, white, beige, and other earth tones. Additionally, vibrant colors like red, olive green, and light pink can create stylish contrasts with chocolate brown.
  • Chili Oil + neutral colors like taupe, denim, grey, and camel brown. It can also be combined with unexpected colors like mustard yellow or warmer pinks for a bold look.
  • Poppy Red + neutrals like black, white, and navy, as well as unexpected colors like mustard yellow, olive green, and pink. For a bold look, you can also combine it with shades of orange or purple.
  • Bronze Brown + cream, beige, orange, purple, and teal. Additionally, earth tones and warm colors like burgundy and dark green also complement bronze effectively.

A/W 2024-2025 Suggested Neutral Color Combinations

Wear any of these classic colors (Bright White, French Roast, Vapor Blue, Crown Blue, Mauve Wine) as a monochrome look.

Or mix these neutrals together. This will make your outfits look expensive.

You could also pair any of these neutrals as a bottom with any of the trending colors as a top. This is an easy color combo and you’ll look modern and up-to-date. That’s a recipe for a youthful look!

Ivy Cardigan from Soft Surroundings over a column of white
  • Bright White + just about anything, but especially bold shades like red and navy, as well as softer tones like pastels and beige. For a classic look, you can also combine white with black or earthy colors like brown.
  • French Roast + warm neutrals like camel, taupe, and cream, as well as earthy tones like olive and navy. Additionally, it can be complemented by shades of burgundy and muted oranges for a stylish look.
  • Vapor Blue + shades from monochromatic, analogous, and complementary color palettes. Some examples are soft grays, muted pastels, and other cool tones that create a harmonious look.
  • Crown Blue + Poppy Red and Lyons Blue, creating a vibrant and cheerful look. Additionally, it can be complemented by shades such as teal, gray, and other blues for a harmonious outfit.
  • Mauve Wine + soft pastels like Primrose Pink, Damson and darker hues like navy and deep greens. These combinations create a balanced and stylish look suitable for various occasions.
