7th in a Series of Velvet Outfit Ideas: How to Style Velvet Skirts

This is the 7th in a series of velvet outfit ideas. I started the series with posts on outfit combinations using velvet tops, velvet bottoms, velvet coverups and a style tip for how to wear velvet every day. You can find the links to those posts below this article. This one is all about how to style velvet skirts. I have over 40 ways to wear them listed here.

I love to come up with new outfit combinations all the time but will never be able to wear all of them! So I’m sharing my ideas so that you, too, can constantly make your clothes look new. Just put your own spin on these outfits to show your true self! That’s when age doesn’t matter.

The first section below gives outfit ideas for velvet skirts in general. The second section which follows it contains ideas for short velvet skirts.

Please feel free to adapt these outfit ideas to the specific colors, textures and pieces that you own. By textures, I mean that velveteen and velour can be used in place of velvet if the occasion doesn’t call for something too fancy.

A short velveteen skirt is a casual take on the velvet skirt. Yet it can also be dressed up for casual evenings or work days. Use it interchangeably with velvet in the following outfit combinations.

  1. Day to Evening:  An Eastern Indian printed and/or embellished tunic worn inside a short velvet or velveteen skirt.
  2. For the Office, School Meetings, Etc.:  A navy blouse (or any shade of blue, including prints) + a short, navy velvet skirt. Add a belt, shoes and nude hose. Tie a small silk scarf at your neck or wear amber-toned beads with gold bracelets. You might like to turn back the cuffs of the blouse. For cooler weather, add another tone of jacket (i.e., brown or gray) or a tan trench-coat.
  3. A Bohemian top + a short velvet skirt. Boots go well with this.
  4. A short velvet skirt + a plaid blazer + a long-sleeve cotton top.
