How to Wear Velvet Pants for Comfort and Style

This is the fifth in my series of outfit combinations created with velvet pieces. In the first four posts of this series, I shared outfit ideas for velvet jackets or blazers, velvet tops, velvet kimonos and dusters and a style tip too! Velvet is great for evening, holidays and even for lounging at home. It comes in all pant styles such as palazzos, crops and joggers. I have all sorts of ways to show you how to wear velvet pants for comfort and style. Age doesn’t matter. I hope it makes getting dressed a pleasure for you!

While you look over the various outfit ideas below to create your own outfits, keep in mind that you can substitute velour or velveteen for velvet.

Velvet Pants for Comfort and Style

Here’s an outfit formula to start you off. As a bonus, you can use this formula with a velvet skirt or faux-leather skirt or faux leather pants.

  • Start with velvet leggings, or a velvet skirt, or a faux-leather skirt, or faux-leather pants.  Add a flowing top or tunic with the leggings, or a festive top (think flowing tops, like asymmetrical tunics, pullovers or soft blouses with sequined, beaded, feathered, ruffled and fringed trim).  Leave the top untucked.  Add dressy shoes (think metallic flats, smoking slippers, dressy pumps or black patent leather heeled booties).  Accessorize with a dressy clutch and jewelry.

    • Hi! Are you trying dark colors and/or slim fits? I’m assuming that would help. If you try a straight or skinny type of velvet pant, be sure to wear a tunic-length top. I would bet it looks good! 😉

  • Oh my, all of these outfits are to die for! I have been wanting a pair of velvet pants for years, but haven’t found any that fit this petite, now that petite sizes are harder to find. But now’s a good time to look at the clearance sales! The blue velvet trousers are particularly stunning

  • Angie, I am loving these style ideas for velvet pants! I have been a fan of velvet from the time I started choosing my own clothing! The outfit images you shared are so inspiring, too. I really like the paper bag style pants in velvet. So cool! Thanks for sharing and linking with me. Wishing you all the best in the New Year!

    • Hi, Shelbee – Your love of velvet reminds me of my love for baroque. The first thing I made when I learned to sew was a brocade dress with puff sleeves. I guess I was ambitious. Lol! Thanks for visiting and commenting. I wish you great strides in 2021 – Angie
