Age doesn't matter.

The Color of the Year: in 2026 It’s Cloud Dancer

The Pantone Color Institute is a world authority on color for fashion, home decor, paints…and the Color of the Year! In 2026 it’s named Cloud Dancer. They’ve based this choice on the social mood worldwide, deciding on a shade that they believe is “a whisper of peace in a noisy world.” I believe most of us would agree that is a perfect goal for these times. So I’m taking a look at how to use this in our outfits, keeping in mind its therapeutic qualities.

Let’s clear  our minds, purify ourselves, let our dreams guide us and flow like angels in the clouds. Let’s replace heavy trudging with dancing, light and free. The way you dress gives off a vibe that stays with you all day and emanates outward toward others around you. Age doesn’t matter.

Below, discover Cloud Dancer. Wearing white may sound like a simple thing, but we can all benefit from exploring special ways to wear it in our outfits. You’ll find the psychology of this color at the end of this post. For its healing properties, see “How to Dress Yourself for Immunity Using the Amazing Powers of Color” HERE.

The Color of the Year 2026:  Cloud Dancer

Pantone introduced this color on their website as:

“…a lofty white that serves as a symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection. A billowy white imbued with serenity, Pantone Cloud Dancer encourages true relaxation and focus, allowing the mind to wander and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation.”

Consider your most flattering shade of white to be your tribute to Cloud Dancer this year. It can be a clear white, but it looks like an off white to me and many fashions designs are in cream. This last shade lasts longer than pure white because you don’t have to worry about yellowing or fading and it has more of a vintage, lived-in vibe.

White is like a blank canvas. It can allow any other color to take the spotlight. But following are some classic ways to wear it to good effect.

Allow It to Make a Statement on Its Own, in a Monochromatic Look

The most basic classic color combo that we all know is black & white. But it goes with navy blue or deep green as well, to good effect.

Try Shadowy and Nature-Based Pairings

These colors give a nice shadowy contrast to Cloud Dancer:  sage green, sea blue, azure blue, soft gold, soft muted lavender, medium gray, dark gray and/or muted marine blue.

Rich red is the perfect color to fire up the tranquility of white.

Denim blue is another color that goes with anything and makes a good neutral outfit paired with white.

The Psychology of White

From “Pantone Reveals Its Color of the Year 2026” at the Today Show

“White is the universal symbolic color for purity, wholeness, and innocence. It makes us think of new beginnings and perfection, but also of elegance and serenity. When you have a blank canvas free of any imperfections, you have the freedom to start something new, to let your ideas take contour, and to move in any direction you want.

White is highly creative, and it invites reflection, openness, and awakening.”

— From the website Color Psychology

I hope you wear white to give you a feeling of goodness even if you witness evildoings and for a sense of hope for the future that you wish to see.

  • I wasn’t thrilled with this selection of the color of the year. But, after reading your post, Angie, I’ve changed my mind. I love all of these different looks and ideas for how to wear Cloud Dancer. Mike and I actually met Leatrice Eiseman’s husband at the train station in Seattle. He was telling us all about how she was traveling to Milan for some kind of convention. He usually went with her, but he was going to San Francisco to visit their son. He told us a little about himself…he was a big deal in the music industry. I actually wrote a blog post about it. He was so proud of his wife without dropping names. It wasn’t until I got back to our hotel room and googled him that I discovered who his wife was! What I remember most about that encounter was his pride in his wife and his affable personality.

    • Yes, hope is very important to keep us motivated! Interesting how colors work for us: yellow brightens our mood and white feels pure and peaceful 😉

    • Thanks, Anna! As I worked on this post, I was quite surprised to see how such a simple color as white can take on so many beautiful compositions.
