How to Start Practicing Yoga

Yoga refreshes the mind, body and spirit. It helps tone the body and keeps the internal organs and the hormone system in the right balance.

Age doesn’t matter.  Yoga is one exercise that can be done by people of all age groups. In fact, with the passing of time, one of the most important physical exercises that can be done is yoga.  People from all walks of life can benefit from the advantages of a course like that of the Yoga teacher training in India. There are many people over 50 and 60 who can flexibly touch their toes and clasp their hands behind their back.

The trick is to start the yoga practice at a slow pace and to be patient with yourself as the class progresses. Gradually, the body stretches further and further and becomes more flexible.

There is a fool-proof method of starting the practice of yoga regardless of the age of a person. This method is as follows:

  1.       ANALYZE YOURSELF TRUTHFULLY: If you are over 50, the most important question that you must ask yourself is whether it is easy for you to lie down on the floor and then get back in the standing position without any help. If the answer is yes, you can go ahead and take your yoga training forward. Join a beginner-level yoga class and be as patient as you can be with yourself. In case you have some problems, it is best to let your instructor know about it before you begin your practice so that you get maximum assistance while getting comfortable with your body.
  2.       GO SLOW AND KNOW YOUR LIMITS: If you have not exercised in some time, get some information about the pace of the yoga class you are thinking about. Try to find one that stresses moderate, delicate movements that develop gradually until you get comfortable with the practice. Your body is going to take some time to get flexible and you must be patient with it.
  3.       FIND THE RIGHT TEACHER/YOGA SCHOOL: Yoga has innumerable benefits but only if it is done in the right manner. This will only be ensured by the right yoga teacher. It is important to look for an instructor who is certified, skilled and experienced. Yoga teacher training in Rishikesh has many instructors that are professionally competent to teach yoga in the best possible ways. These teachers know the details of yoga and how to take into consideration the different body types of their students. No matter what the age of a person might be or any physical problem a person might have, the teachers make sure that the needs of each and every individual are paid attention to.
  4.       GOOD MINDSET: To get the most advantage out of your yoga practice, attempt to relinquish thoughts of instability. If you think you are too old, too overweight or too inflexible to even think about doing yoga, you are denying yourself the full advantages of yoga. Commonly even the youngest individuals have not yet built up the mindfulness of their own bodies to see the well-being that yoga brings. If you are a senior, you are probably going to acknowledge and value the positive changes each class makes in you both physically and rationally.

When one regularly practices yoga asanas, meditation and the pranayama techniques, it can lead to a happier and rewarding life. In addition to helping you get physically healthy, yoga will also make the mind stronger. The attitude towards life will get much better and you will feel much younger. It is all the more important to improve the strength and endurance of the body as you age.  Yoga provides all that and more.
