How to Look Cool and Casual Yet Special at a Barbecue

Don’t we all love barbecues during the warm months of spring and summer?  Laid back, fun and casual get-togethers where we are relaxing, enjoying the sun, playing games, sharing with friends, and partaking of good food and drink.  We hate to say goodbye to these good times when summer nears the end.  Age doesn’t matter because we all want to have fun!

At these gatherings, the casual vibe rules.  Get comfortable in clothes that are light and cool, and maybe jeans.  Instead of wearing heels that might sink into the ground, try platform shoes, wedge sandals, espadrilles, metallic sneakers or some pretty flats.  You might want to take a lightweight bomber jacket, jean jacket or other casual topper in case it gets cool as the sun goes down.

So, what to wear?  Something cool and casual that still manages to look pretty, right?  Take a look at the following suggestions.  You may already have them, or maybe you’d like to add some new pieces for the summer or to take advantage of end of summer sales, depending on what time of year you are reading this…

Outfit Ideas

A floral maxi-dress is always a good choice:  cool, comfortable and elegant.  Or, a maxi-skirt with a t-shirt or tank top will work just as well.

A summery tunic + skinny jeans in blue, white or a pastel.

A one-shoulder or off-the-shoulder or cold-shoulder top + jeans + sandals.

A lightweight and/or flowing kimono, duster, vest or draped cardigan + a white tank + white or blue jeans.  Add sandals.  You might also want to add statement earrings or a pendant.   If you prefer, substitute jean shorts for the jeans.

At a backyard barbecue:  a summery top + flared jeans.  Add a statement necklace + sturdy wedge heels for walking on the grass.
