Focus on the Best of 2018 Behind the Scenes and Up Front

I left my job to work on blogging from home about two years ago.  During that time, I have put a lot of time and effort into producing blog posts.  I research, distill each style concept, and link as many photos as possible to stores where you can get the styles I am talking about.  I target the styles that I think women over 60 would like and be willing to wear.

However, age doesn’t matter.  Styles and trends are available to all of us to wear as we like.  It’s up to you to choose your favorite styles and choose what you love and what looks good on you.  Don’t let anyone or any media tell you that you can’t wear this or that after a certain age.

The most popular post on Your True Self Blog in 2018 was “Do You Want to be Told What to Wear in Your 60’s?”  And the answers that I got from you to that question was a resounding NO!  We want to wear what we like…and we can!

I am grateful for the way Your True Self Blog has grown over the past year, and at the end of this post I am sharing the links to the top ten posts of 2018.  I hope you will visit and enjoy them!

Developing a Quality Blog

On the business end, I held everything up while I waited for my trademark to get registered.  I didn’t want to get deeply involved in business if I didn’t get Your True Self Blog trademarked and had to change the name and logo.  It was a long process because there was another blog that applied at the same time for a similar name and I had to appeal.  As this blog is a labor of love, I registered and appealed myself without the help of a paid attorney.  However, my friend Evie guided me with her advice.  And, hallelujah!  After more than a year, I was successful.

Your True Self Blog and its logo are now a registered trademark!

I celebrated with a giveaway.  It was my first experience giving something away.  And without funds, I offered something of meaning:  a locket with a quote by Shakespeare, “to thine own self be true.”  I will be offering more giveaways this year, and I expect to find the funds to offer things of higher monetary value for you.

to thine own self be true

Once I registered my blog name and new logo, I began to work on the website design with FuzzyTek.  We’ve been working on improvements that include:  making my website more user friendly; and making my email signup a process that has more to offer while keeping your data secure.

I also co-hosted a link-up party for the first time with Nicole of High Latitude Style.  Her linkup is called Top of the World  Style.  I am grateful to Nicole for her support throughout the year in many ways, big and small.

An Overview of Subjects That Drew Your Attention

Out of all that work I did on blog posts last year, the subject of style was most viewed.  That makes sense to me, because I started this blog to share my outfit ideas with you.  My husband asked me, “What if you run out of subjects to cover?”  I don’t think I ever will, because one day before I started blogging it occurred to me that there are infinite possibilities.

I decided I would share my ideas for outfit combinations and add a secondary topic of lifelong health.  But my blog subtitle, “age doesn’t matter,” seems to resonate with my readers more than the subject of health.

I didn’t think anyone was reading my posts on closet organizing, but I was wrong.  It is a common problem that seems to plague everyone.  Organizing your closet space makes it easier to see what you have and get dressed quickly with room for creativity.  So I will be adding more closet-organizing tips in the future.

My sister recommended a blog series on color.  I’m not sure if that is something you are enjoying or not; please let me know.  But when I got a personal color analysis online with a discount from Pamela at Style Yourself Confident, my post got a large number of views.

  • Hi Angie! I am so happy you dropped a comment over on my blog today because it is how I found your space here. I loved your comment about how your husband asked if you would run out of ideas. My friends and family ask me that all the time, and in 4 1/2 years, I have never come up short on something to say or share. I look forward to following you here as it looks like we have many of the same interests – outfits, closet organizing, healthy eating, styling and fashion for mid-life women who want to wear whatever they like! I look forward to following your journey and congratulations on seeing it all through!
    xx
