New Book Shows Midlife Women How to Declutter for Clarity

Today, I have a good read to share. It tackles an important topic, if you’re like me and battle ever-encroaching clutter. This new book shows midlife women how to declutter for clarity of mind and home. It’s called PopUpPurge: Release Midlife Clutter & Reclaim Inner Clarity by Mary Vraa of the blog Shift Your Stories. After a few hours of reading this book, I was already inspired to start getting rid of some things around the house! Now that I have read the whole book, I can just imagine what I can do once I start using the processes set forth by the author.

Who is Mary and Why Did She Decide to Write This Book?

Mary is a new member of the weekly Fashion Flash e-magazine that I participate in every week. So many on our team of contributors are writing and publishing books now that the creator of Fashion Flash, Deb of No-Nonsense Beauty blog, said we ought to call our group Bloggers with Books. Lol! I myself am working on a series of Style Books that will be coming out soon.

Decluttering has always been a natural inclination for Mary. She eventually came to the realization that our homes represent who we are. That’s because they tell stories about what matters to us. Mary left a corporate career to start a small business helping senior citizens downsize as they moved to older adult communities. As she worked with the seniors, she began to encourage them to focus on keeping what they loved instead of mourning what they left behind.

As Mary saw how difficult it was to let go of a lifetime of belongings, she thought it would be so much easier to start this process earlier in life. So she shifted her focus to midlife women. Because then the choices to be made prepare you for an exciting new direction. She wants you to “feel the empowerment and joy of choosing your attitude and your next step.”

Mary found that decluttering decisions require that we review our emotional attachments to our physical things. So she went on to get a Master Life Coaching certification. In her coaching and in her book, she helps you to get clear about what is inside of you making it difficult to clear up what’s outside of you.

What is the PopUpPurge?

The PopUpPurge is a trademarked method Mary created that uses the power of baby steps to conquer a seemingly overwhelming situation. With this program Mary coaches your decluttering process and cheers you on. It’s supported with a growing PopUpPurge™ community on Instagram that connects by posting small clearing-out videos or photos using the hashtag #popuppurge.

What is Unique About This Book?

In the book, PopUpPurge, Mary says:

“I simply cannot emphasize enough how physical clutter is a direct result of emotional clutter. We don’t always hang on to things for rational reasons. There will be stuff that our head knows to release but our heart urges to retain.”

With that in mind, part of the book uses introspective tools, information and techniques to help work through irrational reasons for hanging onto stuff. That’s the beauty of the PopUpPurge process. It creates permanent change from the inside out as well as the outside in. Mary helps to create breakthroughs when we’re stuck, get us to a new mindset, give us new habits and form a new direction for good. This can be life changing.

Final Thoughts

The PopUpPurge book presents in-depth guidance broken down into sections that make it easy to refer to any subject at any particular time.

As you go along, little lessons provide insights into what slows you down so you can resume decluttering with confidence and clarity. You’ll review where you’ve been, what has mattered to you, and who has figured largely in your life. That helps reframe where you want to head next. This decluttering business ends up giving you an opportunity to decide what matters now.

PopUpPurge is not just the usual guide to deciding what should stay and what should go. It delves into changing our habits and explores how we view ourselves, where we want to be, what we treasure
and how we want to be remembered.  Each of these factors is
examined for a midlife refresh of what matters now. And that’s what helps to reassess what’s in the house.

  • Thanks for sharing this book, Angie! I need to do some serious decluttering around here! Actually, most of the necessary decluttering around here is kids’ stuff…so I may have to wait a few more years before I can reclaim my house and make it the way I want it! Thanks for linking with me.

    • Hi, Shelbee – I have an idea that you could do some small-scale decluttering instead of serious decluttering…anything to make a dent, right? I don’t quite have the habit yet but it’s worth trying. 😉 Angie
