Age doesn't matter.

Your True Self Blog’s Top 10 Most Popular Posts of 2021

It’s always interesting to see what the most popular posts were from the year before. What women want to know becomes clear as well as how lifestyles are changing. In my top 10 most popular posts of 2021 for instance, here are some things I learned:

  • It seems that women wonder “what colors go with olive??”
  • There are special items of clothing that seem to be only for special occasions; but I think women are always happy to find out ways to wear them casually for any day they feel like it.
  • In fact, since the Covid pandemic, comfort rules!
  • Although women are interested in being sexy, they want to be comfortable at the same time.
  • That brings me to the idea of body-conscious clothing. Who wants to sacrifice comfort and confidence to be sexy? Not men and not women either. Modesty is important to a sexy look that goes outside the house.
  • Layering is important for warmth and for style too, but it’s a tricky skill to master.
  • Kimonos are a beloved style element. Therefore, I would advise everyone to have at least one!
  • Designing a blazer without sleeves was a genius idea that created a cool look for warm-weather business…and then evolved into styles for every other occasion as well!
  • Women want freedom and youth. So I always try to show how age doesn’t matter!

Some of these popular posts are standing the test of time, getting into the top ten list for more than one year! Click the titles of your favorite subjects and take a deeper look. I hope that you enjoy them as much as so many others did in the past year.

# 10. “What Colors Go Best With Olive for the Most Beautiful Outfits?”

Coral coat with olive pants from J.Crew

Olive is a popular color, especially in the fall and winter. Therefore, this post has been an all-time favorite. Olive is a colored neutral, so it actually can go with anything. But for the best color combinations, this is a must read. I printed out a copy of this post for myself and refer to it often! You can find out what colors go best with olive HERE.

# 9. “How to Style a Velvet Jacket or Blazer Every Day of the Festive Season”

Sofia Velvet Blazer from Sundance over a printed blouse and jeans

I posted a Velvet Series beginning with the holiday season in 2020 and ending with the holiday season of 2021. The first in the series was a style tip, the second was this one on velvet jackets and blazers and the series ended with more style tips. All in all, there are nine blog posts in this set. Besides six style tips using velvet, you’ll find out how to style the following:

#8. “How to Be Comfortable Yet Sexy in Your Pajamas”

Sky Blue Silk Cami Top and Pants Set from ForHappyYou at Etsy

A friend asked me to write about how to be comfortable and still sexy when wearing pajamas around the house. I discovered seven ways to do this. My friend wasn’t the only one interested in this. Although this post was written in 2019, it came in as one of the top ten most popular posts on my website in 2021. The Covid pandemic has kept people home more than usual so the interest in looking good while lounging at home is high.

#7. “How to Get Good at Layering Bracelets”

For the third year in a row, this has been in the top ten of my most popular posts showing this style to be a classic. And it’s ageless! This article provides information on:

  • How to start combining bracelets;
  • Info on how to stack them;
  • Eight styling tips;
  • Bracelet combinations in different types of materials;
  • Ideas for how to mix them up.

#6. “6 Ways to Wear Lounge Pants in the Popular New Athflow Style”

Pants from Soft Surroundings

Athflow style is relatively new. Once the pandemic eased up enough for people to leave their homes more often, women didn’t want to leave their lounge pants at home. So in this post, I came up with six ways to take your most comfortable house clothes to the streets with confidence. Included is a style tip on footwear to change up your lounge pants.

#5. “How to Layer a Slip Dress Like a Pro”

One of the top ten for the second year in a row, this is another oldie but goodie. It tells how to layer a slip dress so you can wear it during cool or cold weather. Starting with a mix and match list of layering pieces and footwear suggestions, there are lots of outfit combinations from dressed down to dressed up. For layering a slip dress during warm weather, you might also like to read “Does a Slip Dress Really Have to be Sexy?” HERE.

Kimono Jacket from Sundance

From comments on my popular post “Here Are Over 45 Sure-Fire Ways to Rock a Kimono” (HERE) as well as comments on social media, women have shown much love for kimonos. So I’m not surprised to see this subject in the top ten list for 2021. This article shows that styling a velvet kimono or duster can be as easy as 1, 2, 3!

#3. “How to Wear a Sleeveless Blazer in Classic and Unusual Ways”

For the second year in a row, here’s another oldie but goodie! In other words, I would consider the sleeveless blazer to be a classic wardrobe item. It’s unique but has staying power, as evidenced by its popularity. It’s really nice to have one for doing business during warm weather. This post proves the versatility of a sleeveless blazer by giving outfit combinations for casual events and evenings out as well as for work.

#1. “How to Dress Like an Artist and Look Young”

Valerie and Jean (the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas), Debra Rapoport, Diana Gabriel and Carol Markel showing how to dress like artists – from The Guardian

This post is #1 for the second year in a row! At first, I was surprised to see it getting viewed day after day. I was wondering what was going on…Then it was getting views just about every day over the last year. I began to chuckle and then laugh as I saw the clicks going on and on. I’m tickled and delighted that this became one of the most popular posts!

The idea for this post came from the photos similar to the feature photo above that were tagged as Ladies Who Refuse to Dress Their Age. This photo certainly is something that attracts people to look more closely.

Anyway, this post is full of photos of women of a certain age, many of them artists, who have bold and creative ways of dressing. And as you enjoy the pictures, the elements that create their style are highlighted. You can try incorporating these style tips into your own outfits to get the same vibe of vitality and glamour.

    • Hi, Marcia – That is a beauty, isn’t it? I have one like it in deep teal that I got for a steal. I think it might have been from Shein or somewhere similar. I hope you go for it and get one for yourself! 😉 Thanks for stopping by – Angie

  • I want that blue velvet blazer from Sundance! I am a frequent wearer of olive, so that was a fun one for me. Angie, how did you determine your 10 most popular posts? Number of comments? Number of visitors? I think this is such a great idea

    • I have a blue velvet blazer similar to that one that I got for much less from Cotton Traders, but that was a couple of years ago. I got the matching pants and top, too. Olive seems to really be a popular color! I determined the most popular posts by the number of views, the most clicked on. It’s amazing how these statistics show the trending interests of women over the past year. Since all of the top ten were style posts, that’s what I will be concentrating on in the year ahead.

    • Thanks for letting us know your favorite! If you have discovered an especially good way to layer your bracelets, I’d love to hear more about it!
